'~ «* f.i4.'AV-sîy-r ;*.“'”-.?^.to*.^'' PhD Thesis A Sociological Investigation On The Problems And Expectations Of Religious Employees: Applied To Elazığ M.Cengiz YILDIZ Fırat University Institute of Social Sciences Department of Sociology 1999, Page: XIV+433 This study entitled“A Sociological Investigation on the Problems and Expectations of Religious Employees: Applied to Elazığ”is a field research on the religious personnel belong to Elazığ Branch of the Presidency of Religious Affairs. For this purpose a questionnaire has been prepared and a set of 150 religious employees have been subjected to the study. The concept of“religious employee”in this study was used for the government employees performing religious duties within the framework of bureaucratic hierarchy such as“Mooftee”,“Vice-Mooftee”, Preacher, Religious Inspector, Quran Teacher,“Imam-Khateep”and“Muazzeen-Qayyeem”. In this study the variables affecting the personal, social and professional problems of religious employees who are responsible for carrying out the religious duties were investigated. On the basis of sociological criteria the significant findings obtained on these matters were described and evaluated. It has been found that there is a noticeable difference on the problems and expectations of religious employees depending on their positions. In addition, the problems and expectations were also observed to be quite different in respect to the location of occupation such as urban (city, town), rural (village) areas. This study revealed that the problems and expectations during the period of work are dependent upon several variables. These are; age, marital status, birth place, level of education, father's occupation, number of children, salary, income not depended to salary, residence conditions.
