Özet

Bu çalışmada, bilgi felsefesinde empirik geleneğin kurucusu olarak kabul edilen ve deneyciliği sistematik bir şekilde ortaya koyan John Locke' un,“İnsan Anlığı Üzerine Bir Deneme”adlı yapıtı esas alınarak, idelerin ne olduğu ve bu ideler ile dil arasındaki ilişkinin nasıl olduğu incelenecektir.“John Locke'un İde Teorisi Özelinde İde-Dil İlişkisi”adlı bu tez çalışması, Locke'un dile ilişkin görüşlerini merkeze alarak dil felsefesi disiplini alan yazınına özgün bir katkı sağlamak amacıyla hazırlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, Locke'un dil anlayışı ve ide teorisi açıklanmaya çalışılmış ve bu anlayış bağlamında, dil felsefesinin önemli ve üzerine hacimli çalışma yapılması gereken konularından olan ide-dil ilişkisi değerlendirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Locke, bir bilgi teorisi oluşturmadan önce, ideler teorisini oluşturduktan sonra, dilin doğasını, kullanımını ve imlemini irdelemesi gerektiğini fark etmiştir. Çünkü bilgi, dilsel önermelerden meydana gelmektedir. Bu şekilde, Locke, bir dil teorisi ortaya koyar. Bu teoriye göre, sözcükler ve şeyler anlığın nesneleri olan ideler sayesinde ilintilenir. Bir başka deyişle dil, idelerin dolayımı aracılığıyla inşa edilir. Bu çalışmada, öncelikle Locke'un, doğuştan bilgi yoktur, bilgi teorisi, ide teorisi başlıkları sırasıyla ele alınmıştır. Sonrasında ise ide ve dil arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir.

In this study, based on the work of John Locke, who is considered the founder of the empirical tradition in the philosophy of knowledge and who systematically put forward empiricism,“An Essay on Human Understanding”, what ideas are and how the relationship between these ideas and language is will be examined. This thesis titled“The Idea-Language Relation in the Specific Context of John Locke's Idea Theory”has been prepared with the aim of making an original contribution to the literature in the field of philosophy of language by focusing on Locke's views on language. For this purpose, Locke's understanding of language and his theory of ideas have been tried to be explained and in the context of this understanding, the idea-language relationship, which is one of the important and voluminous subjects of philosophy of language, has been tried to be evaluated. Before forming a theory of knowledge, Locke realized that after forming his theory of ideas, he had to examine the nature, use and significance of language. Because knowledge is made up of linguistic propositions. In this way, Locke presents a theory of language. According to this theory, words and things are related through ideas, which are the objects of the mind. In other words, language is constructed through the mediation of ideas. In this study, Locke's titles of“there is no innate knowledge”,“theory of knowledge”, and“theory of ideas”are discussed in order. Then, the relationship between ideas and language is examined.
