97 ABSTRACT This is a survey that was carried out to ascertain the effects on the students preference to one of the secondary educations. In this survey it was seavched which conditions they are influenced by while they're making Their own choices to one of the schools an ordinary Iycee, aprofessional or a technical Iycee. It was tried to clear out social, economic and individual influences on the person to choose his school. It was among 43 secondary schools in Eskişehir 1998 - 1999 academic year. The inquiry prepared by the surveyor was given to the sutudents. Datums were written in the numbers and percentages according to the students preferences. Most of the parents were the ones who graduated from primary schools. Nearly all of the mothers are housewives while most of the fathers are in independent business or workers. Most of the families have four or five persons. Of 25 % of the students in ordinary Iycees, and 10 % of the studenst in professional and technical Iycees the families income monthly is 201 million TL.s or over. Most of the students choose their schools because of the reason that the schools are to give the best education omong the others. They themselver make their own choices. The students in ordinary Iycees choose their schools to be able to succeed in the university entrance exam, in professional schools to be able to get a job easily just after the school; in technical schools for the possibility that they won't win the exam to be able to get a job in their fields. The students in ordinary Iycees are in the hope that they will probably continue their education while the others in professional and technical Iycees will get a job in any field. !£.
