Özet
Bu tez kapsamında, dördüncü yüzyılda ortaya çıkan Ariusçuluk meselesinin,“barbar”olarak anılan kavimlerden biri olan Ostrogot Krallığı'nın kültür ve siyasetine etkileri incelenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda Ammianus Marcellinus, Philostorgius, Procopius, Cassiodorus ve Iordanes gibi dönemin çağdaşı birincil kaynaklar analiz edilerek, bunlar Herwig Wolfram, Thomas Burns, Peter Heather gibi araştırmacıların tartışmaları ışığında değerlendirilerek tez içerisinde sunulmuştur. Bu bağlamda ilk olarak Ariusçuluğun bir dini mesele olarak ortaya çıkışı, İznik Konsili ve konsil kararları sonrasında takip edilen politikalardan bahsedilmiş, akabinde bu itikadın Tervingi halkı (Vizigotlar) ve sonrasında Ostrogotlar arasında nasıl ve ne sebeple yer bulduğuna değinilmiştir. Nitekim bu incelemelerin ardından Ariusçuluğun, Ostrogot toplumu tarafından benimsenmeye devam edilmesinin sebepleri, toplum açısından Ariusçuluğun önemi, Ostrogot kültür ve kimlik siyasetindeki yeri gibi konular tartışılmıştır. Üç bölümden oluşan tezin ilk bölümü kronolojik bir sıra benimsenmek suretiyle kaynaklarda ilk kez Got ve Germen adının nerede geçtiği gibi konuları ele alır, ikinci bölümünde ağırlıklı olarak Ariusçuluğun Roma gözündeki imgesi ve Gotlar arasında yayılması süreçleri anlatılmıştır. Tezin en geniş ve kapsamlı bölümü ise üçüncü bölüm olmakla birlikte, ağırlıklı olarak Amal hanedanı, Gaut Kültü ve Ariusçuluk meselesinin bu kavramlarla olan ilişkisini aydınlatması bakımından önemlidir.

This thesis examines the influence of Arianism, which emerged as a significant issue following the formalization of Christianity, on the culture and politics of the Ostrogothic Kingdom— one of the tribes historically referred to as barbarians. In this context, contemporary sources such as Ammianus Marcellinus, Philostorgius, Procopius, Cassiodorus, and Jordanes were analyzed and evaluated in light of modern scholars like Herwig Wolfram, Thomas Burns, and Peter Heather, and presented within the thesis. Firstly, the emergence of Arianism as a religious issue, the Council of Nicaea, and the subsequent policies following the council decisions were discussed. Then, the reasons and manner in which this creed found acceptance among the Tervingi (Visigoths) and later the Ostrogoths were explored. Following these examinations, the reasons behind the continued adoption of Arianism by the Ostrogothic society, its importance to the community, and its place in Ostrogothic culture and identity politics were elaborated. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter follows a chronological order, providing information about when and where the terms“Goth”and“Germanic”first appeared in the sources. The second chapter focuses primarily on the image of Arianism from the Roman perspective and the processes of its spread among the Goths. The third and most extensive chapter sheds light on the Amal dynasty, the Gaut Cult, and the relationship of the Arianism issue with these concepts.
