ÖZET GÜNÜMÜZ KONUT TASARIM PRATİĞİNDE TÜRK MİMARLARIN MÜŞTERİ VE KULLANICILARA İLİŞKİN MESLEKİ DEĞER SİSTEMLERİ Burçak Serpil Altay Güzel Sanatlar, Tasarım ve Mimarlık Fakültesi Doktora Tez Yöneticisi: Yrd. Doç. Dr. Zuhal Ulusoy Ağustos, 2000 Bu çalışmanın amacı konut tasarım pratiğinde mimarların kullanıcılarla ve müşterilerle ilgili değer sistemlerinin araştırılması ve anlaşılmasıdır. Bu, şu andaki Türkiye'nin sosyal bağlamıyla bir çok aktörün bulunduğu pratik bağlamını araştırmayı gerektirmektedir. Bilgi, değer, değerler sistemi, meslek ve meslekleşme gibi çalışmanın temel kavramlarının tanıtımından sonra, mimarların dğerler sistemini analiz etmek için aktörlere dayalı bir model önerilmiştir. Tarih boyunca mimarlık mesleği ve onun diğer aktörlerle olan ilişkisi tartışılmıştır. Bu tartışma, mimarın Türk toplumundaki ve özellikle farklı konut tasarım süreçlerindeki değişen rolünü de içermektedir. Daha sonra yapılan araştırma kapsamında, Ankara'da çalışan yirmi dört mimarla, onların pratikteki deneyimlerini, müşteri ve kullanıcılarla ilgili görüşlerini ve ilişkilerini, ve tüm bunların mesleki eylemlerine nasıl yansıdığını sorgulayan açık-uçlu mülakatlar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Analizde, verilerden çıkarılan temel temalar kategorileri olulşturmuş, ve bu temaların birbirleriyle olan ilişkileri belirlenmiştir. Mimarların konut tasarım pratiğindeki mesleki değer sistemleri, onların kendi mesleki kimlikleri, müşteri, kullanıcı ve toplum ile ilgili görüşleri ve mesleki amaçlarından oluşan çakışan ve çatışan inançları; ve bu inançların tasarım sürecinin farklı evrelerinde eylem ve ilişkilerini nasıl yönlendiridiğini içeren bir modelde sunulmuştur. Kuram ve araştırma geliştirilmesi ile eğitimle ilgili öneriler getirilmiştir.

ABSTRACT PROFESSIONAL VALUE SYSTEMS OF TURKISH ARCHITECTS WITH RESPECT TO CLIENTS AND USERS IN CONTEMPORARY RESIDENTIAL DESIGN PRACTICE Burçak Serpil Altay Ph. D. In Art, Design and Architecture Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Zuhal Ulusoy August, 2000 This study is based on the exploration and understanding of the value systems of architects regarding clients and users during residential design practice. This needs an inquiry of the existing Turkish social context as well as the context of design practice, including various actors. After an introduction to the basic concepts of the study, including knowledge, values, value systems, professions and professionalism; an actor-based framework is proposed to analyse architects' value systems. The architectural profession and it's relationship with other actors is discussed briefly throughout history, including the changing the role of the architect in Turkey with respect to society at large and during distinct residential design processes. Afterwards, a research is carried out with twenty-four practicing architects in Ankara, through open-ended interviews, investigating architects' perpectives and experiences during design practice, their relationship with the actors and the impact of these on their professional conduct. The data analysis is based on the derivation of basic themes forming categories followed by the discovery of emergent relationships between these themes. The value systems of architects during residential design practice is presented in a model comprised of an interrelated set of corresponding and conflicting beliefs regarding the architects' values attributed to their professional identities, clients, users and the society at large, their professional aim and objectives, and how these beliefs guide their action and interaction at different stages in the design process. Suggestions are proposed with respect to theory and research development as well as education.
