Özet

Bu çalışma, Sokratik metodun temel niteliklerine ve eğitimdeki yansımalarına değinmektedir. Doküman analizi yöntemi ile yapılan bu çalışmada özellikle metodun öncüsü Sokrates'in temel görüşleri ışığında ve eğitimin genel amaçlarına uygun Sokratik sorgulamaya dayalı bir eğitimin, bireye kazandırabileceği temel niteliklerin neler olabileceği irdelenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bununla birlikte araştırmanın asıl amacı, Sokratik metodun eğitimde çok önemli bir öğretim aracı olabileceğine dair bir farkındalık oluşturmak ve bu alandaki gelişmelere katkıda bulunmaktır. Bu kapsamda Sokratik metodun sınıfta uygulanabilirliği, sınırlılığı, öğretmen ve öğrenci üzerindeki etkisine değinilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular, Sokratik metodun öğrencilerin düşünme becerilerini geliştirdiğini ve akademik başarılarını arttırdığını; öğretmenin aktarmak istediği bilgilere yönelik, iyi bir öğretim aracı olduğunu ve uygulanan sınıflarda etkili bir ders ortamının gerçekleştirebildiğine yönelik sonuçlardan oluşmaktadır. Son olarak bu metodun iyi bir sorgulama becerisine sahip bir öğretmen tarafından uygulanması halinde, sınıfta oluşacak fazla zaman alması, konunun dışına çıkılması, öğrencinin verebileceği yanlış cevaplara karşılık kendini kötü hissetmesi gibi birtakım olumsuzlukların da önüne geçilebileceği kanaatine varılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda Sokratik metodun, çağdaş eğitimin önemli bir öğretim tekniği olabileceği ve Sokratik metot bağlamında eğitimsel iyi-oluş hedefini gerçekleştirebileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

This study touches upon the basic qualities of the Socratic method and its reflections in education. In this study, which was conducted using the document analysis method, it was especially tried to examine the basic qualities that a Socratic questioning-based education, in the light of the basic views of Socrates, the pioneer of the method, and in accordance with the general purposes of education, can provide to the individual. However, the main purpose of the research is to raise awareness that the Socratic method can be a very important teaching tool in education and to contribute to the developments in this field. In this context, the applicability of the Socratic method in the classroom, its limitations and its impact on teachers and students were discussed. The findings obtained consist of results that the Socratic method improves students' thinking skills and increases their academic success; that it is a good teaching tool for the information the teacher wants to convey, and that it can create an effective lesson environment in the classes where it is applied. Finally, it was concluded that if this method is applied by a teacher with good questioning skills, some of the negativities that may occur in the classroom, such as taking too much time, going off topic, and the student feeling bad about the wrong answers he may give, can be prevented. As a result of the study, it was concluded that the Socratic method can be an important teaching technique in contemporary education and can realize the educational well-being goal in the context of the Socratic method.
