V–I eğrilerinden türetilen şekil tabanlı özellikler (loop area, simetri, kompaktlık, vs.) kullanılarak benzer güçteki cihazların kombinasyonel verileri ile cihaz tespiti yapılmıştır.

The increasing global demand for energy and the environmental impacts associated with fossil-fuel-based energy production have made energy conservation a central goal for global sustainability. Residential buildings account for a significant portion of this total consumption due to the widespread use of electrical appliances for heating, cooling, and lighting. Consequently, monitoring consumption at the appliance level is essential for fostering user awareness and encouraging energy-efficient habits. While traditional intrusive monitoring methods, such as smart plugs, offer high accuracy, they are often cost-prohibitive and difficult to scale because they require physical access to every single device. On the other hand, non-intrusive methods that rely on a single measurement point often lack the granularity required for detailed analysis. To address these challenges, this thesis presents a Semi-Intrusive Load Monitoring (SILM) system as a cost-effective, practical, and highly accurate alternative for residential environments. The developed system is built upon a sophisticated hardware and software architecture designed for real-time operation. At its core is an STM32F407VG microcontroller, which manages high-frequency data acquisition from current and voltage sensors. The system utilizes Hall-effect sensors for current measurement and the ZMPT101B module for voltage monitoring, ensuring precise and isolated data collection. To maintain reliability under real-world conditions, where electrical signals are often plagued by electromagnetic interference and transient noise, the system implements a robust two-stage filtering process. First, a median filter is applied to suppress impulsive noise and outliers. Second, an optimized moving average filter is used to smooth the signal, bringing the apparent noise floor down significantly and improving the accuracy of phase difference calculations. A critical technical achievement of this work is the optimization of the moving average filter using a sliding sum approach, which reduced the processor load from 45.73% to 10.12%, allowing the system to perform complex calculations three times more frequently within the main processing loop. One of the most significant contributions of this thesis is the demonstration that highly accurate load disaggregation can be achieved on embedded systems without the need for artificial intelligence (AI) or deep learning models. While contemporary non-intrusive monitoring often relies on heavy computational models, this system utilizes a deterministic and rule-based decision-making framework based on high-resolution electrical signatures. By grouping appliances into specific circuit feeders (SILM), the complexity of the total load is reduced, transforming the disaggregation problem into more manageable sub-tasks. The system differentiates between resistive, inductive, and capacitive loads by analyzing Active and Reactive Power (P-Q) components. This allows the identification of devices that may have identical active power ratings but distinct reactive characteristics, such as distinguishing a simple heater from a motor-driven fan. To further enhance the disaggregation capabilities, the thesis introduces the Peak-to-Steady Difference (PSD) metric. This feature captures the unique transient“inrush”signatures that occur during an appliance's startup phase. For instance, while a vacuum cleaner and a hair dryer might consume similar power during steady-state operation, the vacuum cleaner's motor produces a much higher transient peak compared to the dryer's resistive element. Additionally, the system employs Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis to identify appliances based on their harmonic signatures. Devices with non-linear power supplies, such as LED drivers or computers, produce distinct harmonic distributions that serve as unique fingerprints, even when multiple devices are operating simultaneously. The system also leverages Voltage-Current (V-I) trajectories to extract shape-based geometric features. By mapping instantaneous current against voltage, the system calculates metrics such as loop area, symmetry, compactness, and loop width. A novel feature developed in this study is the 90-degree phase-shifted loop area, which artificially increases the“thickness”of V-I curves for low-power electronic devices and resistive loads. This innovation allows for stable disaggregation in scenarios where traditional V-I area calculations would fail due to signal noise or near-zero phase shifts. For complex, multi-mode appliances like dishwashers and washing machines—which are notoriously difficult to track without AI—the system utilizes a Finite State Machine (FSM) model. This deterministic model tracks the sequential power stages of the appliance (e.g., water intake, heating, pumping) and acts as a“masking”mechanism to prevent internal state transitions from being misinterpreted as the activation of other devices. To ensure the system's robustness against external factors, a voltage scaling approach is implemented. Since the power consumption of resistive loads is proportional to the square of the voltage, fluctuations in the grid can lead to shifting power thresholds. The developed algorithm dynamically scales these thresholds based on real-time voltage measurements, maintaining the stability of the appliance detection process. Furthermore, the system incorporates sensor-channel reduction techniques. By strategically placing sensors in a combinational topology, the system can monitor multiple electrical groups with fewer physical sensors, significantly reducing hardware costs and installation complexity. The final output of the system is a user-centric energy management platform. Data processed by the embedded controller is transmitted via ZigBee wireless communication to a central interface. This interface provides real-time alerts, notifying users exactly when specific appliances are turned on or off. Beyond mere monitoring, the system provides a comprehensive daily energy analysis that matches appliance usage with a three-time tariff system. It specifically identifies high-consumption events occurring during peak price periods and generates tailored saving recommendations, suggesting when users should shift their activities to lower-cost intervals. In conclusion, this thesis successfully bridges the gap between low-cost monitoring and high-accuracy disaggregation. By relying on advanced signal processing, optimized mathematical models, and multi-feature validation rather than artificial intelligence, the system offers a transparent, efficient, and resource-friendly solution for residential energy management. The integration of PSD, FFT, FSM, and novel V-I features allows the system to accurately identify approximately 30 different household appliances, providing a solid foundation for future smart grid integrations and sustainable energy practices.
