Özet
Wimbledon Tenis Turnuvası, 1877 yılında Londra'daki All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club(AELTC) tarafından düzenlenen ilk şampiyona ile başlayan tarihsel serüveni boyunca, hem tenis sporunun gelişiminde hem de küresel spor kültürünün şekillenmesinde belirleyici bir rol üstlenmiştir. Dünyanın en eski ve en prestijli tenis organizasyonu olarak kabul edilen Wimbledon, geleneksel yapısını korurken aynı zamanda modern spor gereksinimlerine uyum sağlayabilen ender turnuvalardan biridir. Beyaz kıyafet zorunluluğu, çim kort kullanımı ve aristokratik atmosfer gibi tarihsel unsurları muhafaza edilmesine rağmen, turnuva yıllar içinde altyapı, organizasyon yapısı ve oyun koşullarına ilişkin önemli yeniliklere de sahne olmuştur. Bu çalışmada, Wimbledon'ın kuruluş yıllarından günümüze uzanan dönüşümü; kurumsal yapılanma, kort ve tesis düzenlemeleri, turnuva formatındaki değişiklikler, medya ve teknolojinin turnuvaya etkisi gibi çok boyutlu bir çerçevede incelenmektedir. Özellikle 20. yüzyılın ikinci yarısından itibaren artan küresel izleyici kitlesi, profesyonelleşme süreçleri ve spor endüstrisinin büyümesi, Wimbledon'ı yalnızca bir spor organizasyonu olmanın ötesine taşıyarak uluslararası bir marka haline getirmiştir. Bu bağlamda, turnuvanın tarihsel gelişimi incelenirken, geleneksel unsurlarını koruma çabası ile modernleşme gereklilikleri arasındaki denge arayışı da çalışma kapsamında ele alınmaktadır. Araştırmanın amacı, Wimbledon'ın tarihsel gelişimini bütüncül bir perspektifle değerlendirmek; turnuvanın geçirdiği yapısal, kültürel ve organizasyonel dönüşümlerin hem tenis sporuna hem de küresel spor kültürüne olan etkilerini ortaya koymaktır. Bu doğrultuda çalışma, literatür taraması, tarihsel analiz ve spor yönetimi yaklaşımlarını bir araya getirerek Wimbledon'ın geçmişten günümüze uzanan yolculuğunu sistematik biçimde incelemektedir.

The Wimbledon Championships, which began with the first championship organised by the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) in London in 1877, has played a decisive role throughout its historical journey in both the development of tennis and the shaping of global sporting culture. Recognised as the world's oldest and most prestigious tennis event, Wimbledon is one of the few tournaments that has managed to preserve its traditional structure while adapting to modern sporting requirements. Despite maintaining historical elements such as the white clothing requirement, the use of grass courts and an aristocratic atmosphere, the tournament has also witnessed significant innovations over the years in terms of infrastructure, organisational structure and playing conditions. This study examines the transformation of Wimbledon from its founding years to the present day within a multidimensional framework, including its institutional structure, court and facility arrangements, changes in the tournament format, and the impact of media and technology on the tournament. Particularly since the second half of the 20th century, the growing global audience, professionalisation processes, and the expansion of the sports industry have elevated Wimbledon beyond being merely a sporting event, transforming it into an international brand. In this context, while examining the historical development of the tournament, the study also addresses the search for balance between efforts to preserve traditional elements and the necessities of modernisation. The target of the research is to evaluate the historical development of Wimbledon from a holistic perspective; to reveal the effects of the structural, cultural and organisational transformations undergone by the tournament on both the sport of tennis and global sports culture. To this end, the study systematically examines Wimbledon's journey from past to present by combining literature review, historical analysis, and sports management approaches.
