The increasing emphasis on health, well-being, and quality of life within the built environment has led to the emergence of various certification systems that aim to support sustainable and user-oriented spatial production. Among these systems, the WELL Community Standard, developed by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), distinguishes itself through its comprehensive approach that integrates physical health, social interaction, environmental quality, and community wellbeing. Unlike conventional sustainability frameworks that primarily focus on environmental performance and energy efficiency, the WELL Community Standard emphasizes the relationship between spatial organization, user behavior, and social sustainability. However, although such certification systems are developed as global normative frameworks, their direct implementation within different local contexts may be limited due to variations in socio-cultural structure, user expectations, governance models, regulatory systems, and spatial practices. In this respect, the Turkish context presents unique social, cultural, and spatial dynamics that require contextual evaluation rather than direct adoption of internationally defined criteria. Within this framework, the present study aims to evaluate the applicability of the WELL Community Standard within the Turkish context and to develop a localization model focused on social sustainability. The study investigates how the criteria defined within the standard correspond to local spatial practices, user behaviors, regulatory structures, and socio-cultural dynamics. In addition, the research examines the extent to which the standard contributes to social sustainability through community interaction, accessibility, inclusiveness, and shared spatial experience. Rather than proposing a direct adaptation of the existing system, the study develops a contextual and analytical localization approach. In this regard, the research not only evaluates the applicability of the WELL Community Standard in Türkiye, but also proposes a systematic framework for restructuring the criteria according to local conditions and priorities. Methodology The study was designed within a qualitative and comparative research framework in order to evaluate the social sustainability potential of the WELL Community Standard and its applicability within the Turkish context. The research process was developed through a multi-layered analytical structure that combines document analysis, comparative evaluation, case study analysis, and survey findings. As the first stage of the study, the criteria defined within the WELL Community Standard were systematically analyzed and restructured into an analytical framework. In this process, the criteria were evaluated under four main components: design, technical, managerial, and cultural. This classification enabled the criteria to be examined not only through measurable technical requirements but also through their spatial, social, and behavioral implications. Within the technical component, the international standards and performance thresholds referenced by the WELL Community Standard were comparatively evaluated alongside the relevant regulations and technical legislation currently in force in Türkiye. This comparison aimed to identify the extent to which the criteria correspond to the local regulatory framework and to determine whether they require contextual reinterpretation. In addition to the technical analysis, the study examined the relationship between the criteria and social sustainability indicators such as accessibility, inclusiveness, community interaction, user well-being, and shared spatial experience. Rather than producing direct quantitative measurements, the research focused on evaluating the potential social impacts of the criteria through analytical interpretation and comparative assessment. The research also included the analysis of international WELL-certified community projects selected from the IWBI database. These projects were evaluated in terms of spatial organization, community-oriented approaches, cultural characteristics, and shared-use strategies. Furthermore, selected local examples from Istanbul were comparatively analyzed in order to investigate how similar spatial approaches are interpreted within the Turkish context. To support the analytical findings, surveys conducted with both users and sector professionals were incorporated into the study as complementary data sources. The survey findings contributed to the evaluation of user expectations, spatial preferences, perceptions regarding shared spaces, and professional approaches toward socially sustainable environments. Throughout the study, a triangulation approach was adopted by combining multiple data sources, including WELL standard documents, international case studies, local spatial examples, and survey findings. This multi-layered methodology enabled the research to evaluate the WELL Community Standard not only as a technical certification framework but also as a socially and culturally embedded spatial system. As a result of this analytical process, the study developed a localization model that systematically evaluates the compatibility of the WELL Community Standard criteria with the Turkish context and
