A total of 351 blood samples were analyzed: 251 healthy animals from the same farms or groups that did not exhibit symptoms of BP infection, and 100 female Holstein cattle, from different publicly owned farms in Burdur-Center and its districts, with warts of various appearances on various parts of their bodies. Additionally, 100 female Holstein cattle from farms that did not exhibit any wart formation had their blood samples examined. The cattle ranged in age from one to ten years. In 351 blood serum samples collected from farms with warts, seropositivity was detected in 45 (12.82%) animals. When the seropositivity distribution of animals with wart lesions in affected farms was examined according to age, the highest rates were observed in the 3-year (26.67%) and 6-year (20%) groups. The highest seropositivity rates were found in animals with wart lesions on the teats (24.45%) and mammary lobes (22.22%). The highest number of positive animals in affected farms was found in those that tested positive for both antibodies and antigens. In 351 blood serum samples collected from farms with warts, BPV (L1 antigen) positivity was detected in 48 (13.67%) animals. When the distribution of BPV (L1 antigen) positivity in animals with wart lesions in farms with warts was examined according to age, the highest rates were observed in the 3-year (25%) and 6-year (18.75%) groups. It was determined that BPV (L1 antigen) positivity rates were highest in animals with wart lesions on the teats (22.92%) and mammary lobes (20.83%). Statistical analyses revealed a statistically significant predictive value (P<0.001) between the two tests. A highly significant positive correlation (100%) was found between the two tests. In 100 blood serum samples collected from wart-free farms, seropositivity was detected in 2 (2%) animals. When seropositivity distribution by age was examined in wart-free farms, it was observed in the 3-year (50%) and 6-year (50%) groups. In 100 blood serum samples collected from wart-free farms, BPV (L1 antigen) positivity was detected in 4 (4%) animals. When BPV (L1 antigen) positivity distribution by age was examined in wart-free farms, it was observed in the 3-year (75%) and 6-year (25%) groups. The Chi-Square (X2) test's predictive value was shown to be significant (P<0,001) between the two tests in the statistical analysis. For both tests, the p-value was 0,001, and P<0,05 indicated that it was significant. The two tests showed a highly substantial positive correlation (99.9%). The study concluded that antigen detection is more important in identifying the disease in both the farm with and without warts. BPVs can be transmitted from animal to animal through direct skin contact, as well as indirectly via contaminated objects, including arthropod vectors. In farms with warts, the presence of active BPV in blood cells is estimated to be a source of horizontal transmission to animals uninfected by BPV. In farms without warts, the risk of transmission of the pathogen has been shown to be quite low.
