This study aims to develop a piano teaching model for individuals with dismusia (dysmusia – musical dyslexia) as conceptualized by Neil Gordon, and to examine the applicability of this model. The research was designed using a mixed-methods approach with a qualitative emphasis and was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, semi-structured interviews were held with six piano teachers and experts, and based on the findings and relevant literature, a three-module piano teaching model was developed comprising affective alignment (Module A), rhythmic grounding (Module B), and visual processing and notation instruction (Module C). In the second phase, the model was implemented over eight lessons with a 12-year-old piano student diagnosed with dyslexia and presenting dismusia characteristics, within a single-subject research design (AB design). Data were collected through a Music Theory and Literacy Test, a Music Ear Test, a Musical Development Form, lesson observation notes, and video recordings. Findings revealed that all participating teachers were previously unfamiliar with the concept of dismusia, yet intuitively identified relevant pedagogical needs, which showed high alignment with international literature. Application findings indicated that the student's Music Theory and Literacy Test score increased from 48 to 80 (out of 100), and the Music Ear Test score improved from 12 to 22 (out of 30). Notable improvements were observed in note-reading speed and accuracy under the color-coded system, with observable progress also recorded under the non-colored condition compared to the pre-test. Affective comfort level showed continuous and consistent growth throughout the eight lessons, emerging as the earliest and most stable area of improvement. Bimanual coordination remained the most resistant dimension throughout the intervention period. The research demonstrates that the developed model offers an applicable and promising pedagogical framework for piano students with a dismusia profile. It is recommended that the effectiveness of the model be tested with larger samples.
