Özet

Amaç: : Tanımlayıcı ve metodolojik tipte yürütülen bu araştırmanın amacı, Seok Hong Tan tarafından geliştirilen Bakım Verici İhtiyaçları Ölçeği'nin (Caregiver Needs Scale-CNS) Türkçe geçerlik ve güvenirliğini incelemek, özel gereksinimli çocukların bakım vericilerinin ihtiyaçları ile algıladıkları sosyal destek ve sosyal destekten duydukları memnuniyet arasındaki ilişkiyi ve ilişkili faktörleri belirlemektir.

Objective: This descriptive and methodological study aimed to evaluate the Turkish validity and reliability of the Caregiver Needs Scale (CNS) developed by Seok Hong Tan and to determine the relationship between caregiver needs, perceived social support, satisfaction with social support, and the factors associated with these variables among caregivers of children with special needs. Material and Method: The study was conducted between October and December 2025 with caregivers of children aged 12 years and younger attending special education schools and inclusive education classrooms affiliated with the Ministry of National Education on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. The methodological sample included 227 caregivers for the validity and reliability analyses of the CNS and 121 caregivers for the test–retest analysis. The descriptive sample consisted of 221 caregivers. Data were collected using the Sociodemographic Information Form, the CNS, and the Revised Parent Social Support Scale (RPSS). In addition to validity and reliability analyses, Pearson correlation analysis, independent samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were performed. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05. Results: The content validity ratio (CVR) and content validity index (CVI) were 1.00 for all items. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the original four-factor structure of the scale (χ²/df=2.345; RMSEA=0.077; SRMR=0.047; CFI=0.934; TLI=0.921). The overall Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.954, with subscale alpha coefficients ranging from 0.846 to 0.899. The test–retest analysis demonstrated a very high positive correlation (r=0.998, p<0.001). Caregiver needs were significantly higher among female caregivers, mothers, unemployed caregivers, those with low income, and those with chronic diseases, as well as among caregivers of children with intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, and multiple disabilities. A significant negative correlation was found between perceived social support and caregiver needs (p<0.05). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Caregiver Needs Scale was found to be a valid and reliable instrument. Caregiver needs varied according to caregivers' sociodemographic characteristics and the child's disability status. As perceived social support and satisfaction with social support increased, caregiver needs decreased. These findings suggest that social support plays a protective role in reducing caregiver need.
