Özet

ÖZET Jane Austen 18. yüzyıl en seçkin en İngiliz romancılarındandır. Yapıtları içinde, Pride and Prejudice ve Persuasion önemli bir yere sahiptir, çünkü yazar adı geçen romanlarında roman kişilerini betimlemede mükemmeldir. Bu tez romanların baş kadın ve erkek kişilerini incelemeyi ayrıca, kişilerin olumlu ve olumsuz niteliklerini de vurgulayarak, her bir karakterin gelişimine dikkatleri çekmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Önsöz bölümünde, Jane Austen'm edebi kişiliği verilmektedir. Giriş bölümünde, çeşitli eleştirmenlerin, yazarın yazın tarzı, göze çarpan dili kullanımı, yazımsar önemi ve yapıtlarından söz edilmektedir. Karakterler bölümü olan ilk Pride and Prejudice ' in kısımda; hem romanla işbirliği verilmekte, hem de kahramanları ayrıntılı olarak örneklerle tanıtılmaktadır. İkinci bölümde ise Persuasion romanının olay örgüsüyle birlikte, baş roman kişileri ayrıntılı ve örneklerle sunulmaktadır. Sonuç bölümü tezden yapılan çıkarımlar ve yararlı görüşleri içermektedir. Özet (Çeviri)

ABSTRACT Jane Austen is one of the most distinguished 18 th century English novelists. Among her works the novels called Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion occupy an important place as Austen achieved perfection in describing her characters in these novels. This thesis aims to characterise the main heroes and heroines of these novels, to emphasise the positive and negative aspects of their characters, to point out the development of each character throughout both of the novels named above. In the Preface a piece of information about J. Austen's literary career is given. In the Introduction part the opinions of various critics about J. Austens literary activities and the titles of her major works are mentioned, some information about her background, about her literary significance, her writing style and use of language are presented. In the first chapter entitled characterization the main characters in Pride and Prejudice some information about the novel, its plot, construction the views various literary critics on the novel are stated and then the main characters of the novel are examined. In the second chapter called characterization of the major characters in Persuasion, the novel's plot construction, some information about it is presented and the main characteristic features of the major characters of the novel are described. In Conclusion, the main results of the thesis are summed up and a useful perspective is reached out about the characters of the novels examined. V
