Özet

11 ÖZET Bu tezin amacı, Keats'ın hissi bir şairken gerçekleri gören bir şair olmaya doğru yapmış olduğu şiirsel ilerlemeyi göstermektir. Bu çalışma şairin hikayesel şiirlerinden ikisine; The Eve of St. Agnes ve Lamia'ya ayrıca“ode”larından ikisine“Ode to a Nightingale”ve“To Autumn”a dayanmaktadır. Tanıtım bölümünde, şairin hayatı edebi ilerlemeleri ile beraber verilmektedir. Şairin eserlerinin durumu ile şairin kendi ruh durumu arasındaki ilişki de vurgulanmaktadır. Ayrıca, Keats'ın mektuplarına da şiir kavramına ve anlamına ışık tuttuğu için değinilmektedir. Keats'ın hayatı çok kısa olmasına rağmen yaşantısında sanatçı olarak gelişmesini etkileyen ve duygusal hayalleri olan bir şairken gerçekleri görme ve değerlendirme niyeti olan bir insan olmaya doğru yapmış olduğu ilerlemeleri sağlayan birçok değişiklik olmuştur. Bu edebi yolculuk boyunca birçok kilometre taşlan bulunmaktadır. Kilometre taşları olarak, The Eve of St. Agnes' da romantik aşk, Lamia'da felsefe,“Ode to a Nightingale”de kaçış ve“To Autumn”da gerçek vardır. Her bölümde bir şiir, şiirsel gelişme temasıyla ilişkili olarak incelenmektedir. Bu çalışma Keats'ın çok kısa hayatında şiir tarzında önemli değişiklikler göstermesi ve gerçek hayatı ile paralel giden sanatsal gelişme hızının olağanüstü ve inandırıcı olması ile sonuçlanmaktadır.

Ill ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis has been to study Keats' poetic development from a sensuous poet to a poet who faces reality. The argument is based on two of his narrative poems: The Eve of St. Agnes and Lamia and on two of his odes:“Ode To a Nightingale”and“To Autumn.”In the introductory part, his life is briefly presented by way of background to his literary development, the relation between the mood of his works and his own mood is emphasized. Further, Keats' letters are referred to for the light they throw on the conception and significance of the poems in question. Although Keats' life was a very brief one, there were many changes in it which affected his development as a writer, and ensured his progression from that of a poet of sensuous dreams to that of a man intent on facing and appreciating the facts of reality. Along this literary journey, there were some important mile-stones: There is the romance of The Eve of St. Agnest the philosophy of LamiaT the escapism of“Ode to a Nightingale,”and the reality of“To Autumn.”In each chapter, one poem is studied in relation to the theme of his poetic development. The study concludes that John Keats in his very short life shows considerable variety in the style of his poetry and the speed of his artistic development is remarkable and convincing, running as it does in a line parallel to his actual life.
