Özet
öz İngilizce'nin küresel iletişim dili olarak tüm dünyaya yayılması ingilizce öğretimi alanında sosyo-politik temellere oturtulmuş yeni yönelişler doğurmuştur. Küresel bir dilin öğretiminin diğer yabancı dil öğretim süreçlerinden farklı olması gerekliliği bu çalışmanın çıkış noktasını oluşturmaktadır. Bu bağlamda, İngilizce'nin küresel bir konum edinmesiyle ortaya çıkan eğitsel yaklaşımlar iki temel başlık altmda irdelenmiştir: İngilizce öğretimine kültürler arası bir yaklaşım ve İngilizce öğretimine eleştirel bir yaklaşım. Elde edilen kuramsal bakış açısı İngilizce öğretimi alanındaki yerleşik ve artık sorgulanmaz bir nitelik kazanmış yaklaşım ve uygulamaları kavramsal bir düzlemde değerlendirmek için zemin hazırlamıştır. Bu çerçevede Türk eğitim sistemi içindeki güncel İngilizce öğretimi süreçleriyle kuramsal bir hesaplaşma gerçekleştirilmiş, ülkemizdeki durum uygulama boyutuyla ele alınmıştır. ABSTRACT The phenomenal spread of English as a global means of communication has brought about the need to explore the current orientations in the field of English language teaching (ELT) within its socio-political context. The assumption that the teaching of a global language should be different from that of any other second or foreign language serves as the primary point of departure of the present study. This study, in this respect, analyses the pedagogical implications of the global English focusing on two major strands of thought, the first one of which is an intercultural approach to ELT and the other is a critical approach to ELT. The theoretical perspective attained here allows us both to reconsider the unquestioned perceptions and practices of the field on a conceptual level and to reflect and examine the prevailing ELT applications in Turkey. The central question addressed in the final chapter is the extent to which English language education in Turkey fulfills the requirements of the current tendencies. The theoretical arguments and analysis carried out in the study reveals the inconsistency between the global English and the teaching of it in
