ABSTRACT Bilen, Mehmet, The Answers That Ibn Hajar Had Given To The Objections That Were Raised Aşainst al-Bukhârî, Doctorate Thesis, Advisor: Prof. Dr. M. Hayri Kirbaşoğlu In this study, the answers that are given by Ibn Hajar al-Askalânî (1449/852) in his work named Fathu'l-Bârî Sharhu Sahîhi't-Bukhârî, to the criticisms against al-Bukhârî's (869/256) famous work al-Camiu's-Sahîh. The study consists of an introduction and three chapters. In the introduction, Ibn Hajar's life is dealt with briefly. Than the method of commentary that is employed by Ibn Hajar in Fathu'l-Bari, which is the main source of our research, is studied In the first chapter Ibn Hajar's defences against the objections that were raised against al-Bukhârî's chapter titles (tarajimu abvabi'l-Bukhârî), were studied In the second chapter, Ibn Hajar's defences against the objections that were raised against al-Bukhari's chain of transmitters (isnad) while transmitting the traditions (ahadith) in al-Camiu's-Sahih, are studied. In the third chapter, the criticisms that were levelled against the content of traditions (ahadith) that were transmitted by al-Bukhari and Ibn Hajar's defences against those criticisms are dealt with. It has been concluded that, because Ibn Hajar viewed al-Bukhari to be the first among traditionists (muhaddithin), he had contradicted himself in his answers and come up whit the interpretations which are not acceptable.
