Özet (Çeviri)
The Relationships Among the Conscious Individual, the Society, and the World in Walt Whitman's Works Walt Whitman is one of the great bards of America and the world. This thesis, concentrating upon the works of Whitman, will explore the reconstruction process of Whitman's Personality and the Universal Personality, in reference to Psychoanalytic Approach. The ideas of Psychoanalytic Approach, and its representatives of Classic Psychoanalytic Theory; Sigmund Freud, and Modern Psychoanalytic Criticism: Jacques Lacan will be reflected. Since, Whitman, Freud, and Lacan have the same goal: They investigate the nature of humanbeing, as for them, each individual and event is unique. They guide the individual while traveling in the paths untrodden to explore how the human psychology is formed. This includes a psychological journey of each conscious individual which begins with conflicts, and questions, passes through authentic experiences, discoveries, and ends with a synthesis of the interactions and real reunion with his / her inner world, the society, and the world. In Whitman's works, we will see that in order to arrive this destination. Freud suggests that each individual should achieve reconciliation among the id, the ego. and the superego parts of human psyche. Lacan says that each individual should keep the balance among the imaginary, the real and the symbolic phases of life. The thesis will also focus on the historical developments between 1800 - 1900. especially the Civil War, the clash betweeen the ideal and the real America. Transcendentalism, and the ideas of Ralph Waldo Emerson, in reference to Whitman's works. Thus, this thesis will concentrate on the works of Walt Whitman in relation to the ideas of Psychoanalytic Approach; Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan. Then, the relationship, interaction, harmony, and reconciliation among the conscious individual, the society and the world will be put forward through the thesis. It's this inspirational atmosphere where everlasting poems - songs of consciousness, knowledge, democracy, freedom, and equality will be composed and sung. 127
