Özet
Bu çalışmada, Bizans giysilerinin tanımlanması, işlevi ve kullanım alanlarının saptanması ve tarihsel süreç içerisinde meydana gelen değişimlerinin belirlenmesi ele alınmaktadır. Konunun kapsamı dokuzuncu yüzyıl ile ondördüncü yüzyıl sonu arasındaki dönem ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Bu döneme ait giysiler, belirli toplumsal sınıf ya da kurumlara göre ayrılan bölümler içerisinde, mozaik, fresko, minyatür, sikke ve mühürler gibi ağırlıklı olarak görsel veriler ile yazılı kaynaklardan elde edilen bilgiler ışığında değerlendirilmiş, belirgin giysi türlerinin resim ve çizim örnekleri sunulmuştur. Çalışmanın Bizans giysileri ile ilgili yapılan araştırmalara yararlı olması dileğimizdir.

The purpose of this study is to describe Byzantine clothing and to determine its various functions and uses. Furthermore, this study also examines changes in the types and functions of the Byzantine clothing throughout history. This study covers the period from beginning of the 9th to the end of 14th centuries. The clothing of this period is divided according to social class or institution with each chapter examining one of these types of clothing by utilizing both written sources and visual sources such as mosaics, frescoes, miniature paintings, coins and seals. Pictures and drawings of certain types of clothing are also provided. We hope that this study will make a useful contribution tu the study of the Byzantine clothing.
