Özet
ABSTRACT This thesis presents three significant plays by Maria Irene Fornes, in which identity is transcended by the body gestures of the characters. The women characters in Fefu and Her Friends, The Conduct of Life and Mud reflect their identities on body gestures, underlining the struggle of their status in the patriarchal structure they subsist. The corporeal presentations of the individuals are examined with the help of Gestic Feminist Criticism; a combination of Bertolt Brecht's techniques, and Feminist Theory. Bodily attributes signify the gestic qualities the characters preserve, namely their language problems, brutal acts enacted on them and power struggle for their beings. The main characters encounter certain drawbacks from the outer world while striving for a better standpoint in life and these shortcomings are illustrated through the gestic properties attached to their bodies. oz Bu tez çalışması Maria Irene Fornes'un üç önemli oyunundaki kimlik sorunsalının karakterlerin beden dilinde kendini göstermesi üzerinedir. Fefu and Her Friends, The Conduct of Life ve Mud oyunlarındaki kadın karakterler kendi kimliklerini beden hareketlerine yansıtırlar ve bu yansıtma ataerkil toplumda gösterdikleri statü mücadelesini vurgular. Kişilerin beden diliyle yapılan temsilleri Bertolt Brecht'in teknikleriyle ve Feminist Teorisinin birleşimiyle ortaya çıkan Gestic Feminist Critism eşliğinde incelenir. Bedensel simgeler karakterlerin sahip olduğu beden diline ait dil problemlerini, üzerlerine uygulanan şiddeti ve de kişilik mücadelerini temsil eder. Ana karakterler daha iyi bir konuma ulaşmaya çalışırken, dış dünyadan gelen sorunlarla yüzleşirler ve bu sorunlar karakterlerin bedenlerine işlemiş olan hareketlerle aydınlatılır. m
