Özet

SUMMARY COMPARISON OF PHYSICAL FITNESS PARAMETERS OF VISUALLY IMPAIRED AND HEALTHY CHILDREN The purpose of this study was to determine motor performance level of the visually disabled students and also to compare with sighted children. 8 physical fitness and motor performance test items based on Brochport Physical Fitness Test Manual ( BPFT ) were administered to 40 students with visual disability and 20 sighted students. This students were recruited from Altındağ Gören Eller Primary School, Yenimahalle Mitat Enç Görme Engelliler Primary School and Batikent High School in Ankara province. The students were examined in this study using The Brochport Physical Fitness Test Manual's test items divided into three groups: Group I ( Sighted Children ), Group II ( Children With Low Vision ) and Group III ( Blind Children ). 29 girls ( % 48,33 ), 31 boys ( % 51,66 ). The average of group I is 15,7±0,73 year, group II is 15,65 ± 0,74 year, group III is 15,90 ±0,71 year. The tests were as follows; test 1 ( sum of triceps and calfs ), test 2 ( push-up ), test 3 ( pull-up ), test 4 ( 1 mile run&walk ), test 5 (curl-up ), test 6 ( trunk lift ), test 7 ( back saver sit&reach ), test 8 ( flexed arm hang ). When we compared the groups according to motor performance tests' results, we found significant differences among the groups concerning 1mile run&walk test and back saver ( sit & reach ) ( p < 0,05 ). Otherwise there were not significant differences regarding other tests' results and also we found that the children who participate in sportive activities had significant results concerning 1 mile run & walk test in all groups. In addition to the this results, the children who participate sportive activities had also significant value. The result of trunk lift test showed a significant difference in favour of blind children who participate in sportive activities. 63The results obtained from this study showed that blind or children with low vision had decreased physical performance and physical fitness tests' scores compared with sighted children. This study also showed that extra care is required applying physical fitness test to identify changes in physical fitness capacity of blind children in order to improve the physical functioning and to plan the most suitable rehabilitation programme for blind children or child with low vision. 64
