SUMMARY THE CLIMATE F E T TT R E S OP NEVPT5HÎR ( HIGH LICENCE THESIS ) Nevşehir stands in the middle Kızılırmak Area of the Centr? Anatolia Region. The site between Nevşehir and Ürgüp came into existance by means of lavas and volcanic tufas that resulted a volcanism, which happened at the end of the third geologic pe riod until the beginning of the fourth, (tîrgtip Plateau) The characteristics of the land surface of the area between Nevşehir and Ürgüp has an international fame. The fairv chim neys, which were protected bv and old-established hard layer of lava in this area, attracts the attention. Let's talce a looTc at the climate characteristics' of Nevpe- hir briefly. The annual average of temperature is 10.4 C., between I962-19Bb. The average of the temperature is 27.4° C maximum in July, and -3.5° 0 in January. The highest degree, that has noted upto this time, is 37.6° 0 in the July of 1962 and the lowest are -20.3°u. in January 1964 and Februarv 1976. we have frost averagely for 82 days- per year. In some yea the frost starts earlv and continues rather long, causing harm and effecting shortage in crop growing in the vineyards and orchards. 1'urkey is mostly influenced bv the anticyclone zone of Sibirskaya in the north, and cyclone zone of the Persian Gulf in the Liouth./.. In our study area the southern winds are effectual irr winter and Northern winds prevail during the whole year. x-ampness and moisture change according to the monthly and annual course of the temperature. If we consider the average of the clear, cloudy and over, cast weather, during the whole year; we find that the percen tage of the clear days between -June and October is higher in comparison with the other period. We have ground and radiation fogs and mists under the continental and thermionic terms- during winters. The annual ([yearly) rainfall - is 413*6 mm. average of the years between 1962-1985. A great deal of precipitation- falls in winter and spring. Summer months are usually dry, but sometimes we have conventional downpours or showere. In Autumn it rains less than spring. The average number of wet days in one year is 1Û9. Nevşehir and its environment has snow almost everv veax üveragely the date of the first snow is the 7th. of November and the last, on the 16th. of April. Snow falls 25 davs a vear arid the earth is covered wit? snow for 5w days a year as an average number. xf we study the effect of precipitation we should con sider the annual subscription of TCrinç with the monthly in dexes, which show that December, January, February, ^arch are very wet; April wet; Way and Hovs half wet; June and October./.. The result of these datas is that Nevşehir and its vicinity has a continental climate with verv cold and snowy winters- and hot dry Summers. The characters of land surface and the tvne of region crea tion ifluences the climate a great deal. As a matter of fact, the convectional rains in an around Wevsehir, causes sudden running, flows- resulting interesting ground shapes-, First of them are the fairy chimneys which, give fame to the region. The climate features influences economic activities eticF tourism of the area a great deal.
