Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı tarafından 9. sınıflarda okutulmak üzerehazırlanan ?NEW BRIDGE TO SUCCESS 3?adlı ngilizce ders kitabını öğrenci veöğretmen görüşleri alınarak değerlendirmektir.Söz konusu ders kitabının değerlendirilmesi 11 ölçüt üzerinden makro düzeydeyapılmıştır. Bu çalışmada nicel ve nitel veri toplama yöntemleri kullanılmıştır.Veritoplama araçları toplam 336 öğrenciye verilen anket ve 8 öğretmenle yapılanmülakattır. Nicel verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistik yöntemleri (sıklık dereceleri,yüzdeler, aritmetik ortalama ve standart sapma) kullanılarak öğrencilerin 10 ölçütüzerinden kitabı nasıl değerlendirdiklerine bakılmıştır. Nitel veriler ise içerikanalizine tabi tutulmuş ve belirlenen 11 ölçüt çerçevesinde gruplanmıştır.Verilerin analizi öğretmen ve öğrencilerin birçok ölçüt bakımından kitapla ilgiliolumsuz görüşlere sahip olduğunu ortaya çıkarmıştır. Okuma parçalarının kelimeyükü ve dilbilgisi bakımından sadeleştirilmesi gerektiği saptanmıştır. Ayrıca her ikigrup da kitabın seviyesinin yüksek olduğunu düşünmektedir. Bununla birlikte,görsel, işitsel ve devinduyumsal öğrenme stillerinin dikkate alınmadığı dasaptanmıştır. Öte yandan görsel tasarımın güncel olması ve de öğrencilere dersianlamalarında yardımcı olması söz konusu kitabın olumlu yanları olarak ortayaçıkmıştır..

The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of an intermediate textbooktitled ?New Bridge to Success 3?, which was prepared by Ministry of NationalEducation as an instructional material for the ninth grade high school students fromthe perspectives of the teachers and students.The evaluation of the textbook concerned was conducted at macro level on the basisof eleven criteria. Both quantitative and qualitative data were obtained throughstudent questionnaires administered to 336 students and interviews with eightteachers. Frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations were calculatedfor each item to describe the overall picture of how the students rated the textbook interms of ten criteria. Data collected through interviews were transcribed, content-analyzed and grouped according to 11 criteria used in this study for the evaluation ofthe particular textbookThe results revealed that both teachers and students felt negative about the most ofthe characteristics of the textbook. It was found that the reading passages needed tobe simplified in terms of both vocabulary load and structures. Majority of thestudents and all the teachers mentioned that the level of the textbook was notappropriate for the particular age group. It also indicated that the materials failed toconsider learning style preferences of the visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learner. Onthe other hand, one of the strengths of the textbook was the artwork?s being up-todate and helpful for the students to understand the lesson
