Özet
Türkiye'nin doğu kısmında yer alan ve ülkenin yüzde 20'lik bir oranını kapsayan Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi, esas itibarıyla 2000 yılında 15 il, 128 ilçe merkezi, 6.233 köy ve köy sayısından fazla köy dışı yerleşim (oba, mezra, ağıl ve yayla evi gibi) yerleri barındırmaktadır. Bu çalışmadaki amacımız Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi'nin nüfusunu incelemek ve değerlendirmektir. Doğu Anadolu Bölgesi'nin eski tarihi, Osmanlı dönemindeki tarihi ve nüfus değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır. Cumhuriyet dönemindeki ülkenin genel nüfus özellikleri, bölgenin nüfus gelişimi, artış hızı, göç, yoğunluğu, kır-kent ve kentleşme, kırsal yerleşmeler, yükselti kademelere göre nüfus dağılımı, hane halkı sayı ve dağılışı, sosyal ve kültürel yapısı, cins yapısı, yaş yapısı, bağımlılık oranı, medeni durumu, sağlık, eğitim ve ekonomik faaliyetlerdeki nüfus dağılışı incelenmiştir. Ayrıca bahsedilen konuların ülke geneliyle karşılaştırılması yapılmıştır. Bu araştırma sonucunda, bölgenin genel durumu değerlendirilip sonuçları ortaya konulmuştur.

The Eastern Anatolian Region situated in Turkey covers 20 % of the total territory of the country. By the year 2000, it included 15 administrative provinces, 128 districts, 6.233 villages and a great number of places settled by nomad groups such as called, hamlets, sheepfolds and houses nearby mountain pastures. The major aim of the present research is to study and estimate the population of the Eastern Anatolian Region. In this regard the ancient and Ottoman history of the 4 Eastern Anatolian Region was envoy gated and consequently an estimation of its past population has been made. The 2d part of the thesis focuses on the general characteristics of the population, the demographical growth and migration issues in Eastern Anatolia during the republican era. İn the third part, repartition between rural and urban aeras, urbanization, rural settlements and the factor of altitude in the distribution of the population were studied. The faurth part tries highlight the social and cultural structures of the regian, taking into accaunt gender, age, dependancy rate, marital status, healath and education. Finally, the last part deals with the repatition of the population into the main economical sectors. Besides, a comparison of the prerious essues with the general situation of the country has been attempted. İn conclusion the situation of the region has been assessed according to the results of the research.
