Özet (Çeviri)
THE COLUMNATED STREETS OF ANATOLIA IN ROMAN TIMES In the Mediterranian Countries, the winters are usually warm and rainy and the Summers are hot and dry. In the Age of the Roman Empire. This problem was solved by constructing columnated streets with galleries on both sides. The construction of such streets, was even more comman in areas with severer climates and large sums of money were spent on them. The remnants of such streets exist in Pergamum Ephesus, Sordis and Hierapolis in western Anatolia. The most magnificent of all is the one in Ephesus which leads to the harbour and which was named“Arcadiana Street”after it had been repaired by Arcadius the Byzatine Emperor. This street, is decorated with monuments and was even lit up night. There were columnated street in Prusias ad Hypium olso. Columnated streets, were olso constructed in Southern Anatolia, in Perge, Side, Diocaisareia, Pompeiopol is, Anazarbus and in Hierapolis Castabala. The street in Perge which starts from the Monumental City Gate, is cut by another one at a right angle. As is the case in Apameia and Palmyra in Syria, the columnated streets in Diocaisereia, have on their sides facing the carriage way in between, protrusions serving as stutue pedestals. -128- T.C.
