V ABSTRACT Masters Thesis A RESEARCH ON LABOUR USE IN FARMS IN CENTRAL DISTRICT OF TEKİRDAĞ PROVINCE Emel ÜNVER University of Ankara Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Agricultural Economics Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Ahmet ERKUŞ 1992, Page: 87 Jury: Prof.Dr. Ahmet ERKUŞ : Prof.Dr. Ziya Gökalp MÜLAYİM : Prof.Dr. Erkan REHBER This research was carried out on farms in the Central District of Tekirdağ Province. The purpose of this research is to determine the labour force available and utilization on those farms. The data used in this study was collected from 50 farms which were selected by stratified random sampling method. Of the farms studied 38 percent have a farm land between 1-100 decares, of the farms 44 percent, 10 percent and 8 percent have a farm land between 101-250, 251-500 and more than 500 decares respectively. The farms studied have 3.24-6.80 manpower units of labour by size groups and 4.17 M.U. on the average. 52.88 percent of the labour force supplied from 15-49 years of age group on the average. 14.29 percent of the family labour has been working in off-farm jobs in the first size group and, 8.22 percent and 3.44 percent in the second and the third groups respectively. But during the peak working periods those farms have been employing casual labour.V ABSTRACT Masters Thesis A RESEARCH ON LABOUR USE IN FARMS IN CENTRAL DISTRICT OF TEKİRDAĞ PROVINCE Emel ÜNVER University of Ankara Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Agricultural Economics Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Ahmet ERKUŞ 1992, Page: 87 Jury: Prof.Dr. Ahmet ERKUŞ : Prof.Dr. Ziya Gökalp MÜLAYİM : Prof.Dr. Erkan REHBER This research was carried out on farms in the Central District of Tekirdağ Province. Özet (Çeviri)
VI There have been idle labour on all of the size groups. It reaches its maximum with 70.67 percent in 251- 500 decares size groups and minimum with 57.19 percent in the largest group. The idle labour is 63.39 percent on the average. The percentage of idle labour varied through sub- production periods and it was determined that it was minimum with 45.87 percent in care period. This was followed with 64.02 percent in spring work period and with 66.91 percent in autumn work period. The maximum level of idle labour has been reached in cereal harvest period. In this study, an optimum farm plan for each size group was calculated and it was determined that the idle labour percentages could have been decreased by 50 percent.
