SUMMARY INVESTIGATIONS ON THE BIOLOGY AND FEEDING' REGIME OF Orius pallidioornis (Reut.) IN BORNOVA (TÜRKİYE) The main purpose of this study is to bring to the light the biology and feeding regime of Orius pallidioornis (Reut. ). Although, all the species of Anthocoridae are predatory, 0. pallidioornis has a different feeding regime from the others, This study carried out in 1991-1992 in Bornova conditions. 0. pallidioornis occurs in the stamina te flowers mm *-????!? m i - ı in ? and rarely in pistillate flowers of Squirting cucumber, Ecballium elaterium (L. ) A.ftich(Oucurbitaceae). The bug' is distrubuted in east and southerneast Anatolian by Pericart (1959) and in İzmir, Giresun and Mardin by Önder (1982) in Türkiye and also some part of Palearctic Region. The eggs look like a little curved sausage without any micropyle. Dimension of eggs are 0. 52*0. 02x0. 22*0.01 mm. Lengths of nymphal stage 0.82*0.12 mm; 1.12*0.08 mm; 1.50*0.12 mm; 1,75*0.06 mm and 1.8*0.05 mm, respectively. Lengths of the female and male are 2.16*0.10, 1.76^0.11 mm, respectively. 0. pallidioornis hibernates as capulated female among the small Jeaves around the roots of the host plant.55 The hibernation period lasts 6-7 months, from end of Nowember to end of March İn Bornova. At the end of March they leave the hibernating sites and begin to lay eggs at the first week of April. The firat eggs are laid in the stem and leave stalk and after flowering in the flower stalk. Incubation period lasts 6.82±0. 98 days in laboratory. The adults of the first generation occur towards in the middle of May. Rate of male -female is 2/3 in October and July, 1/3 in May and 0/1 in January. 0. pallidioornis produces 4-5 generations per year. In this study, it has been found that 0. pallidioor nis is phytozoophagous insect. It mostly feeds the pollens of E. elaterium and occasionally sap of the plant. It also feeds some thrips e.g. Melanthrips pallidior Priesner (Thys. :Aelothripidae) and Thrips angusticeps Uzel (Thys. :Thripidae).
