Özet
Limanlar, 19. yüzyıldan bu yana bünyesine eklenen yeni fonksiyonlarla gelişmiş, fakat sonyüzyılın getirdiği teknolojik gelişmelere ayak uyduramayarak kentle olan ilişkisini kaybetmeyebaşlamış, limana hizmet eden depolama ve ulaşım tesislerine terk edilmişlerdir. Tarihipotansiyele sahip bu bölgeleri yenilemek, kopan kent-liman ilişkisini tekrar kurmak amacıylayapılan dönüşüm projelerinde fiziksel, ekonomik ve sosyal yenilemenin devamlılığı hedefalınmıştır.Limanın şehirden uzaklaşması tüm dünyada kendini gösteren tarihsel bir süreçtir. Bu süreçsoncunda liman kent ilişkisini kurabilmek için yenileme çalışmaları başlamış, konuyla ilgilifarklı tasarım yaklaşımları, öneriler ele alınmıştır. Hamburg Hafencity'de liman bölgesine konut,ticaret eğitim, sosyal ve kültürel aktivite gibi karma kullanıma yönelik fonksiyonlar yüklenirken,İspanya'da bir iç liman olan Bilbao limanında, Gugeheim müzesi ile yaratılan kültürel kentkimliği ve turizm aracılığıyla bölge kentle bütünleşmiştir.Bu çalışmada, dünyada değişen idari ve sosyo-ekonomik yapının etkisiyle, liman kentlerinin kenthiyerarşisinde artan önemine, turizmin ve kültür aktivitelerinin bu değişimdeki rolüne yerverilmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada Hamburg, Amsterdam, Barselona, Bilbao, Cape Town gibilimanların hangi aşamalardan geçerek yenilendiğine değinilmiştir. Bu irdelemede verilen çözümönerileri ulaşım kararları, fonksiyonel, ekonomik ve çevresel öneriler araştırılmış ve incelenenörneklerden yapılan çıkarımların, İstanbul'daki Galata ve Haydarpaşa gibi liman bölgelerinindönüşümüne sağlayacağı katkılar tartışılmıştır.

The ports have been developed with newly added functions since 19th century, however, theyhave lost their connection with the city because they could not fall into step with thetechnological developments of the last century and they have been left to the storage andtransportation facilities that serve for the ports. Through the transformation projects forrenewing these areas which have a historical potential and reestablishing the connection betweenthe city and port, it has been aimed to provide the continuance of physical, economical and socialrenovation.It is a historical process appears throughout the world that the ports have been alienated from thecities. As a result of this process, renovation activities were started in order to establish theconnection between the city and the port; various design approaches and suggestions regardingthe subject have been handled. While the functions oriented to mix usage such as housing, trade,education, social and cultural activities were established in Hamburg Hafencity within the portarea, in an inland Port of Spain, Port of Bilbo, the area has combined with the city throughcultural city identity and tourism created through Gugeheim Museum.In this study, we have comparatively tried to the handle the increasing importance of the portcities among in city hierarchy as a result of changing administrative and socio-economicalstructure in the world; the impacts of the tourism and cultural activities on this change. How theports such as of Hamburg, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bilbo, and Cape Town have been renewedand what kind of phases they have gone through was referred in the study and the designapproaches and the impact of tourism on these areas are dug out. The samples provided, thesolution suggestions, transportation decisions, functional, economical and environmentalsuggestions have been examined and the contributions from these examples to the transformationof the ports such as Galata and Haydarpaşa of Istanbul have been discussed.
