ABSTRACT Among the various natural environmental problems, overflows ara distinguished by their effects on wide lands and frequency of occvrenoe. At the Eeast Black Sea legion big overflows happened between the dates of June 19 - 20 in 1990. These overflows oaused big harms and damages on sooiohoonomio life and nature öf the region which were hard to repouir or compensate. In that region these type of overflows happened bejore 1990 too. But each overflow oocvring just after the other, causes bigger damages and this reveals the jact that steps taken to avord from overflows are still insufficient, The aim of this investigation is to search the reasons of formation. and results of overlowing and also the steps to avoid of its damages by examining the event from geographic viewpoint, The most important data obtained as a -result of this study is the faot that overflows are the results of heavy rain falls, and the speoial nature of the region has also played a large port in forming overflows. To reduoe the damages of overflows from naw on, a good record system has to be developed to include the periodic measurements of flow rate of water in streams and amount of rain drops around specific regions and also waterways of some river beds must be Qhinged and people living in -Wpdj region need %Q oe mare educated about this natural disaster.
