Eldivan and Ahlat Ophiolites located in the central part of the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan ophiolite belt, representing the pieces of the Neotethys oceanic lithosphere. Eldivan ophiolites emplaced the basement rocks of Gondwana plate in Albian, whereas Ahlat ophiolites emplaced in Turonian on both the basement units and Kurşunludüz formation which is a cover unit of covers Eldivan ophiolite. After Upper Miocene, these two massives re-ride on their cover units towards south.Eldivan ophiolite, is a complete ophiolitic sequence; its lowest unit constituted by the volcano-sedimentary series exposed on a wide area. Substantially, pink-colored limestone blocks with chert bands are observed at the bottom of this unit which is formed asa succession of radiolarian chert, mudstone, limestone and alkaline volcanics. These limestone blocks are intermingled with basaltic volcanics and generally are in decameter size; within these blocks, Halobia and locally Ammonite fossils possibly representing Upper Triassic age are abundant. Hence, this unit is thought to be representing the first rifting products of the Neotethyan Ocean. At the upper levels of the series, radiolarias are extracted from the cherts which are the most important units of the volcano-sedimentary series were determined as Berriasian-Barremian ages (Early Cretaceous). Consequently, it is possible out state that the volcano-sedimentary series started to subside in an area close to the continent, continued its formation until Barremian and gained its actual state by being dragged at the bottom of the ophiolites, emplaced at the late stages of Lower Cretaceous.Metamorphic rocks are overlaid by the volcano-sedimentary series. The metamorphics which are observed as intermittent tectonic slices of hectometer size are generally represented by amphibolites. These units are tectonically overlapped by tectonite textured harzburgites. These tectonites mainly represented by harzburgites, dunite, pyroxenolite and chromite levels tectonically overlapped by cumulates at the top. The bottom of the cumulates is a transition zone represented by dunite, wherlite, pyroxenolite and gabbros. These units are overlied by gabbro, quartz-diorite and plagiogranites. Tectonites and cumulates are cut by the isolated diabase dikes. Sheeted dikes located just above the cumulates are diabasic in composition. These units are locally intruded by plagiogranite dikes.Ahlat ophiolite presents a partial ophiolitic sequence. This ophiolite is generally initiated by volcano-sedimentary series. Radiolaria samples from the chert represents an age interval between Early Bajocian - Late Tithonian (Middle - Late Jurassic). This unit is overlaid by ophiolite base metamorphics as tectonic slices. Metamorphic rocks are mainly represented by amphibolites. Metamorphic rocks are observed on the tectonite textured harzburgites. Cumulates constitute the upper unit of the Ahlat ophiolite. Sheeted dikes supposed to be overlying the cumulates were not found in this ophiolite.Mineralogical, petrological and geochemical characteristics of the basalt samples of the Eldivan and Ahlat Ophiolites show that they represent the same origin; both are the products of alkaline and tholeitic magma. Pillow basalts are in generally characterized by OIB and E-MORB; they are rift products of near the continent and within plate basalts.When petrological features in many Neotethyan Ophiolites are considered, it is possible to point out that Eldivan and Ahlat ophiolites are the products of the Neotethyan Ocean and this ocean was diverged at Late Triassic.
