Özet
?Siyaset Felsefesinde Klasik ve Çağdaş Cumhuriyetçilik: Eleştirel Bir Karşılaştırma? başlıklı bu tezin amacı, cumhuriyetçilik felsefesinin tarihsel ve kuramsal bir tanıtımını yapmaktır. Cumhuriyetçilik düşüncesi klasik ve çağdaş olarak tarihsel bir ayrıma tabi tutulsa da, düşünsel anlamda bir birliktelikten söz edilebilir. Gerek klasik cumhuriyetçilik, gerek çağdaş cumhuriyetçilik, temel yurttaşlık haklarıyla donatılmış olan bireylerin kamusal hayata aktif katılımlarını ve özgürlüklerini garanti kapsamına alacak olan kurumsal ve ilkesel düzenlemeleri amaçlamaktadır. Bu bakımdan cumhuriyetçilik düşüncesi klasik dönemden itibaren temel çizgisinden sapma göstermemiş, tam aksine, ilkesel tutarlılığını korumuştur.Cumhuriyetçilik düşüncesinin sadece tarihsel gelişimini değil, fakat aynı zamanda çağdaş siyaset felsefesinin iki önemli akımı olan liberalizm ve demokrasi ile olan ilişkisini de ele alan tez, cumhuriyetçiliğin çağdaş siyaset felsefesi içerisindeki konumlandırılmasını da incelemektedir. Bu bakımdan tezin temel argümanlarından bir tanesi de, cumhuriyetçiliğin, çağdaş siyaset felsefesinin güncel problemleri olan ?özgürlük, eşitlik, yurttaşlık, haklar? gibi konularda liberalizm ve demokrasi ile tutarlı bir birliktelik içerisinde olduğunu göstermektir.

The fundamental aim of this thesis called as ?Classical and Contemporary Republicanism in Political Philosophy: A Critical Comparison? is to demonstrate the historical and theoretical background of republicanism. Although, historically republicanism has been separated into two groups, which are called as classical and contemporary republicanism, it is possible to discuss that there is a reflective consolidation between them. Both classical republicanism and contemporary republicanism aim the institutional and principal embodiments which guarantee the civil liberties and political participation in the public sphere of the individuals who are entitled with the civic rights. Therefore the republican thought has never deviated from its basic idea. However, it has been preserving its principal consistency since the ancient times.This thesis which doesn?t only investigate the historical background of republican thought but also discusses the relationship between liberalism and democracy which are the two important streams, strongly aims to position the republicanism on the contemporary political philosophy. Hence, one of the main idea of this thesis is to prove that republicanism is consistency with liberalism and democracy on some critical issues including ?liberties, equality, citizenship and rights? in political philosophy.
