34 SUMMARY This study has been carried out to produce monosex ( male) individuals for controlling the over population and increasing the total production. The atudy has been carried out as two part. Hormone treatment which waa the first one was carried out in the time period of 15.8.1991 and 30.5.1991 at Laboratories of Faculty of Fisheries and Fisheries Research Station of Agricultural Faculty. In this part, newly hatched larvae of Q. aureus which were smaller than 11 mm were used. They were stocked as 55 individuals in 10 aquarium ( 62x30x30 cm) and fed hormone treated feed in different concentration ( 0, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 mg hormone /kg feed). The androgen hormone used this part was a domestic product called sustanon. This part continued 45 days. Second part of the study was carried out in the time period of 1.5.1992 and 15.11.1992. In this part, 0. aureus males and females were crossed with 0. ni lot icus males and females. Hybrids produced by these ways were stocked with two replication each containing 50 individuals in concentrate tanks. The results and conclusions of this study can be summarize as follows: 1. In the first part, during the first 45 days of the research, high mortalities changing from 69 % to 83.6% were observed in some groups, in which the reasons were unknown. For this reason, statistical analysis were not done. But, this hormone were concluded as being unsuitable for this aim. But, it is also a reality that androgens are very effective for eex reversing. 2. In the second part, male 0. aureus and female fi- ni loticus were crossed and 93% of male fry obtained as a result. It is an expected result. It waa concluded that 0. aureus and 0. ni loticus are prominent species for producing35 male tilapia fry. 3. Two groups which ons of them obtained by crossing male 0. aureus with female 0. ni loticus, another one female 0_. aureus with male 0. ni lot i cue were compared in terms of growth as length and body weight and first group were found significantly different ( P< 0.05). It wae concluded that, all male tilapia should be used for commercial fish culture. 4. It is known fact that crossing in between two species does not give the same results all times. Because, the biological mechanisms of the sexuality are under effects uf many controlling factors such as the differences of species and varaities, enviroment etc. These mechanisms of this phenomenon should be investigated in detail for more success in this subject.
