Özet

Biyoloji biliminin temelini oluşturan evrim teorisi, etkili biyoloji eğitiminde merkezî ve birleştirici bir rol oynamaktadır. Bireylerin evrim bilgisine sahip olmaları, kendilerini ve dünyayı daha iyi anlamalarını sağlar. Evrim öğretimi, bilimsel ve eleştirel düşünebilen, yeniliklere açık, farklı görüşlere saygılı toplumların gelişmesinde etkilidir. Biyoloji öğretmenleri, bireylere evrim bilgisinin kazandırılmasında önemli rol oynamaktadırlar. Bu çalışmada, kültürel ve dini değerleri farklı olan Türk ve Alman biyoloji öğretmenlerinin ve öğretmen adaylarının derslerinde evrim konusuna yer verme niyetleri ve bu niyetlerini etkileyen faktörler karşılaştırılmıştır.Araştırmada, Ajzen (1991) tarafından öne sürülen Planlanmış Davranış Teorisi (PDT) doğrultusunda hazırlanan, tutum, öznel norm ve algılanan davranış kontrolü boyutlarından oluşan ?Evrim Öğretimi Niyet Anketi? kullanılmıştır. Anketin biyoloji dersinde evrim konusuna yer verme niyetini açıklamadaki etkisi, AMOS 18.0 programı kullanılarak oluşturulan yapısal eşitlik modelleri ile incelenmiştir.Araştırma sonuçları, her iki ülkedeki öğretmen ve öğretmen adaylarının derslerinde evrim konusuna yer verme niyetlerinin oldukça yüksek olduğunu ve niyetlerinde en etkili olan faktörün, evrim öğretimine yönelik tutumları olduğunu göstermiştir. Türk ve Alman katılımcıların derste evrim konusuna yer verme niyeti ve PDT'nin bileşenleri açısından -kültürel değerlerinin, dini inançlarının ve öğretmenlik tecrübelerinin etkisinden kaynaklandığı düşünülen- farklılıklar gösterdikleri belirlenmiştir.

Evolutionary theory constitutes the basis of the biological science and plays a central and unifying role in effective biology teaching. Having evolutionary knowledge provides a better understanding of oneself and all the other living things. Teaching of evolution is effective on the development of those individuals who are able to think scientifically and critically, open to innovations and respectful to the opposing viewpoints. Biology teachers play a significant role in equipping students with sound understanding of evolution. Thus, the present study examined and compared the factors affecting the intentions of Turkish and German pre-service and in-service biology teachers towards teaching evolution in their classes.In this study, data were collected by using ?Evolution Teaching Intention Survey?. The survey consists of three scales, namely Attitude, Subjective Norm and Perceived Behavior Control. The survey was prepared by the researcher in accordance with the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), proposed by Ajzen (1991). Participants? intentions to teach evolution were determined by using structural equation modeling through AMOS 18.0 Software.Although both Turkish and German pre-service and in-service biology teachers differed in their intention to teach evolution, they generally indicated strong intentions to teach evolution. Furthermore, the most important factor affecting their intention was found to be their attitude towards teaching evolution. These findings can be explained in terms of cultural and religious characteristics of two countries and teaching experiences of in-service teachers.
