Özet

Amaç: Okullarda gerçekleştirilen örgün öğretim faaliyetlerinin gereklerinin yerine getirilebilmesinin en önemli şartlarından birisi de öğrencilerin okula erişim ve devamlarının sağlanmasıdır. Son yıllarda öğrenci devamsızlığı okullardaki en büyük sorunlardan biri haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı lise öğrencilerinin devamsızlık nedenlerini ortaya çıkarmaktır. Yöntem: Bu araştırma nicel ve nitel araştırma yöntemleri kullanılarak yapılandırılmıştır. Lise öğrencilerinin devamsızlık nedenlerinin belirlenmesinde tarama modeli; diğer boyutunu oluşturan önemli düzeyde devamsızlığa sahip öğrencilerin devamsızlık probleminin derinlemesine incelenmesinde ise nitel araştırma desenlerinden fenomenolojik yaklaşım kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada iki ayrı örneklem grubu kullanılmıştır. Birinci örneklem grubu 1037 lise öğrencisinden, ikinci örneklem grubu ise 18 lise öğrencisinden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada Devamsızlık Nedenleri Formu ve Öğrenci Görüşme Formu olmak üzere iki adet veri toplama aracı kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırma bulguları incelendiğinde, öğrencilerin devamsızlık nedenlerini en yüksek ortalama ile sağlık problemi kaynaklı alt boyutunda değerlendirirken, en düşük ortalamayla aile kaynaklı alt boyutunda değerlendirdikleri görülmektedir. Ayrıca devamsızlık gün sayısı ile devamsızlık nedenleri alt boyutları arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı ilişkiler saptanmaktadır. Tartışma ve Sonuç: Bu araştırmada, devamsızlık yapma davranışının bir öğrencinin okula yönelik olumsuz duygularının bir belirtisi olmakla birlikte tek başına bir etmen olmadığı, birçok etmenin tek başına ya da birlikte bulunmasının, öğrencinin okuldan uzaklaşmasına, devamsızlık yapmasına ve sistemi terk etmesine neden olabileceği görülmektedir.

Purpose: One of the most important conditions to fulfill the requirements of the formal education in schools is to provide students to access to school and their attendance. In recent years, student absenteeism has become one of the major issues in schools. The purpose of this study is to uncover the reasons of high school students? absenteeism. Method: This study is designed using both quantitative and qualitative research methods. First, survey model is employed to determine high school students? reasons for absenteeism, then phenomenological model which is one of the qualitative research approaches is used to investigate the absenteeism problem of high school students. In this study two groups are used. First sample group is consisted of 1037 high school students; second group is consisted of 18 high school students. In this study, there are two data collection tools. Data are collected through Absenteeism Reasons Form and Student Interview Form. Results: When research findings are examined, it is observed that students have evaluated subdimension of health problems with highest average whereas evaluating the subdimension of family oriented reasons with lowest average. Furthermore, there are positive relationships between absenteeism rates of students and the subdimensions of absenteeism reasons. Discussion and Conclusion: In this study, it is observed that students? absenteeism behavior can be a sign of their negative feelings towards school. It is understood that presence of many factors alone or together may cause students to be away from school and leave the system.
