Özet

-69- The use of winter gardens has been extended as its functions for conservation of energy is noticed. And also it has ait expending use in our country. However the functions of the winter gardens are not new consepts in Turkish architec ture. In traditional architecture, espacially in Turkish Houses the climatic factors were given more imp örtence. For instance courtyards, sofas,çıkraas are the most beautiful examples. Especially“ Çıkma”had functioned es a passive system. To be involved in landscape, to take adventage of the wind, to widen the area have been striking common functions of winter gar dens and çıkma. Today as more energy sources are consumed,, with some kind of preventations man must save energy. Alsoas the energy sources maintained, stored and used nature hasbeen threatened and environmental polution is accured. The use of solar energy has been a solution to all of this problems. The half of the energy consumed is in buildings Thus it is obvious that architectural prevantation will bring beneficial results. Architectural designs dealing with use of solar energy must be supported and improved. Thus new styles will be formed and architecture will be enriched. Howe ver the past should not be forgotten. On the other hand our traditio nal architectural style has a lot of fantastic examples on use of solar energy. Basicly contemprary styles can be searched and lived in past styles.-68- SUMMAEÎ One of the most important factors in integrating hu man sites are climatic factor. When the climatic factors are considered, the shape, direction, form and the caracteristic of building changes. Since the benefits of the sunlight for health, tempe rature, light, austetics and the comfort of the people, it has been allowed inside the buildings. The use of sunlight has been expanded since its beeing cheaper, easy to maintain and limitless when compared to other sources. As taking more advantages of the sun in living areas increased, glass, which takes a great part in this, is more in volved in architecture. The use of glass in wide areas easily allows solar radiation inside the building. Sun rays pass throgh the glazing, collide with the sur face inside and are coverted to heat energy, then it can not pass through and starts to heat inside. At this hour the sur faces inside, like floor, walls, water cups store the heat e- nergy. As the tamparature lowers they radiate. Solar heated warm air can be transferred into cooler rooms in many ways, or the living areas are directly heated with sun rays. As the functional use of sun is combined with auste- tic and recreational needs of the human beeings the areas called“Winter Gardens”are formed. Man has always wanted to be close to nature in his living area. Balcony, courtyard, winter garden ect. has come out as the result of the search for beeing closer to nature.-69- The use of winter gardens has been extended as its functions for conservation of energy is noticed.
