The main objective of this study is to make a quantitative assessment of organizational culture on the basis of values and norms and compare the cultural patterns of a local and an European company. Although there exists different levels of organizational culture, in the study it is conceptualized and measured in terms of values and norms. Following the literature review on the concept, functions, and analysis of organizational culture, a field study at a local and an European company has been conducted. Both companies are operating in packaging industry and competitors in the Turkish market. A questionnaire aiming to collect information on values and norms of these two organizations is applied to 82 white collar employees (38 from local company and 44 from European company). Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS program. Organizational cultures of companies have been characterized by ten dimensions: organizational pride, performance, teamwork, leadership, profitability, associate relations, customer relations, creativity, training, and openness. The analyses have revealed that European company's corporate culture more strongly emphasizes most of the dimensions than local company's corporate culture does. Associate relations is the only exception to this situation. The number of years spent in the company (seniority) affects positively organizational pride and negatively training. Education level is the most important demographic variable for perception of corporate culture, it affects teamwork, leadership, associate relations, and customer relations positively.
