This study aimed to adapt the Revised Class Play (RCP) into Turkish, to measure peer reputation of elementary school children as judged by their peers. The instrument is based on casting 30 different roles which constitute three factors named sociability/leadership, aggression/disruption and sensitivity/isolation. The Turkish form of the RCP (RCP-T) was obtained by comparison of independent translations and back-translation. The pilot study which was conducted to check the use of this form was satisfactory and the rest of the study was directed to establish the validity and reliability of the instrument. The sample was 756 third through fifth grade students from three different elementary schools in istanbul, each approximating low, middle and high socioeconomic status. Findings on construct validity as tested by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses indicated that the same 3-factorial structure was valid for the Turkish sample. Six of the items that did not fit into this structure were eliminated from the RCP-T .. The alpha coefficients of the RCP-T and correlations between the female and male voters were high. The validity of the RCP-T was further tested by correlations of the three factor scores with teacher ratings of internalizing and externalizing problems, sociometric ratings, and grade point averages. Although they were low or moderate, these correlations provided evidence for the discriminative validity of the RCP-T. Interestingly, however, unlike the Sensitive-Isolated factor, the Aggressive-Disruptive factor did not relate to negative outcomes. Overall, this study provided evidence that RCP-T is a promising instrument in assessment of peer reputation among Turkish children. (249 words)
