ABSTRACT ADVERTISEMENT JINGLES AND THEIR EFFECT ON CHILDREN At present time the advertisements became a major sector in the ousiness world. Even though not as strong as in Europe and U.S.A.., this sector has established itself into out- daily lives in Turkey. Especially this media have really been effective towards the children as children have gradu ally gained more importance and became integral part of the family structure. Children ooviously receive a message and acquire information from advertisements. This reception may either be the brand name and make of a product, or a jingle, which causes children to retain information as to the operations of a consumer oriented society and becomes a positive tool that sets the children into happier frame of mind. The jingles in advertisements are generally used in the background as a preparatory element for physiological atmosphere, which attracts attention and supports the theme along with creating a mass communication. The jingles are generally pieces of musics accompanied by words composed to advertise a product, a service or superi ority of such. It has been proven for a fact that because of jingles the retaining possibility of the theme of adver tisement as a result advertisement may more frequently 7475 remembered. As a result, when one hears such jingle it is not hard to relate the product to the jingle. Jingles 3.re original pieces o-f music tnat sre composed specifically -for advertisement purposes. As a -form o-f expression advertise ment music causes a product or a service to gain reputation and retai nabi 1 ity. Both advertisement and accompanying music should not -Force the mind thus has to be liked. The musical structure should be simple but cute, and should be remembered easily; the prosody (sound and word compatibili ty) is utmost important. Misuse of lyrics in the songs compositions may cause negative developments in children's vocabulary. Also the misused prosodies of advertisement music may e-ffect the Turkish language in a negative manner. For this reason the advertisement appearing on television on a daily oasis, should possess proper prosodies in order to attract attention and impress the children in a positive manner. r a yOksekuWM W
