174 ABSTRACT Soyel, Derviş.“ The Evaluation of Turkish Teaching in the Primary Schools of the Turkish Republıc of Northern Cyprus ”. Postaraduate Thesıs, (Advisor: Prof. Dr. Enise Kantemir),XI + 178 page. The aims of this study is to determine the views of teachers workıng in the field of Turkish teaching. and the > level of the fift year students in their skills of understanding of what they read grammer and writıng, in the primary schools of the Turkish Republıc of Northern Cyprus. The sample has been composed of fifth year students and teachers in the 29 primary schools of Nicosia, Famagusta and Kyrenıa. A questionary composed of personal information abaut the teachers, the current situation; and a Turkish test which has evaluated the students skills in understanding what they read, grammer and writing has been applied. 44 teachers and 577 students have participated into the research. The results have been divided according to regions and their arıtmatic mean has calculated. Later, they have been given as frequencies and percents. According to the questionary applied. to the teachers forming the sample, the aims of the National Education and the lesson is being partially realized in the Turkish teaching in the primary schools of the Turkish Republıc of Northern Cyprus. Accord.ing to the result of the test, the avarage success in understanding of what they read is 64.50 %, and avarage success in grammer and writing is 49.46 %, among fifth year students of primary schools. it has been deduced from the finding that there are various problems in the Turkish teaching in the primary schools of the Turkish Republıc of Northern Cyprus, especially in the education related to skills of applying the rules of grammer and writing.
