Özet (Çeviri)

Analyses were conducted for the factors affecting traits recorded by the CAMDA co-operative breeding group. Genetic parameters and genetic trends for the traits were estimated. The traits examined were, weaning weight (WW), liveweight (LW), scanning fat depth (FD), scanning muscle depth (MD), slaughter weight (SW), cold carcass weight (CW) , conformation score (CS), fat class (%F), maternal ability (MA), growth rate (GR), mature size (MS) and litter size (LS). Year affected all the traits. Sex affected WW and GR, male lams had higher weight and GR than females. WW, SW, CW, FC, LW, MD, GR were affected by rearing type; singles were heavier than twins with more fat, deeper muscle. WW, SW, CW, LW, MD, GR were affected by dam age, lambs from older dams were generally heavier, with deeper muscle and higher GR than the lambs from younger dams. Animal age was significant for WW, LW, FD, MD, LS and it was used as a covariate for analyses of the traits. Older animals had heavier weights, deeper fat/muscle and more LS. Genetic parameters were estimated using a range of models including combinations of animal direct genetic effect, maternal genetic and maternal permanent environment, ignoring and allowing covariances between direct and maternal genetic effect. The most appropriate model was identified for each trait. To estimate genetic parameters, an animal model with animal as the only random effect was used for all the traits expect WW and GR. For WW and GR a model with animal, maternal genetic and maternal permanent environmental effects was used. The heritabilities found in this study can be arranged in the order; SW (0.50) > CW (0.42) > FD (0.40) > %FAT (0.34) > LW=MS, MD (0.19) > WW (0.17) > LS (0.15) > GR (0.14) > MA (0.13). In terms of EBVs, WW and LW increased whereas no genetic trend was observed for FD and MD. Emphasis was placed on estimating parameters that could be used to derive a selection index for Welsh Mountain sheep incorporating carcass traits in the selection objectives.
