Özet (Çeviri)
Republic of Turkey was founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1923 from the roots of Ottoman Empire but in completely different features and direction as being a secular nation-state aiming at modernization through following the Western path without any aims for expansion. Kemalist Turkey defined its place in the Western block in the bipolar system of the Cold War. However, the end of bipolarity has changed the whole international system and put Turkish foreign policy in turbulence. The AKP government came to power in 2002, defined new orientation, goals, priorities and tools for foreign policy with the guideline of Strategic Depth Doctrine developed by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. It is argued that Ankara now pursues an identity and ideology based, the Middle East-oriented and pro-active foreign policy driven from the historical aspirations of reviving the Ottoman legacy, which is referred as Neo-Ottomanism. The structure of the dissertation is composed of five chapters. First chapter highlights the introduction to the topic, the research aims and questions, the literature review and the theoretical approach and methodology. The second chapter explains the characteristics of the conventional Turkish foreign policy and the reasons that have constructed it. Third chapter critically evaluates the reasons behind the change in Turkish foreign policy during the AKP era. Fourth chapter initially illustrates the AKP foreign policy to reflect the departures from the previous one. Then, it focuses on the implications of Arab Spring on the AKP‟s foreign policy aims through considering Turkey-Syria relations as a case study. Finally, fifth chapter includes the concluding remarks.
