Özet (Çeviri)
Young children's rejection towards novel and/or disliked foods has previously been the interest of exposure studies (Birch et aL,1987; 1982; 2012; Zajonc, 1968; Byrne & Nitzke, 2002) . Specific picture book exposure studies aimed to alter the inherent food neophobia through enhancing children's willingness to taste target foods by stimulating their visual attention with pictures used and informing them about the foods (Houston-Price et aL, 2009a, b; Heath, 2012, De Droog, Buijzen, Valkenburg, 2012). Promising results have been found in various studies, which used either descriptive picture books (Houston-Price et aL, 2009a, b; Heath, 2012), or entertaining picture books where cartoon characters were used in stories (De Droog, Buijzen, Valkenburg, 2012). The present study intended to design a direct comparison between both styles of books, while trying to confirm the past findings showing promising effects of picture book exposures on young children's willingness to taste disliked foods. Children of 3 to 4 years old have been subjected to a 2-weeks reading intervention with their parents, continuing with taste tests in the University of Reading (N=22). Participants read a specific st yle of the exposure book explaining a single target of ten disliked vegetable. Later, in the individual taste tests, they interacted with both target and distracter vegetables where their willingness to taste the m was measured with a record sheet. Findings show no significant effects of picture book exposure on participants' liking the look of the target vegetables, expectations of target tastiness, order of touch and taste and target amount consumed, regardless the book style. However, exposed book st yle was found to be significantly associated with their liking the looks of the vegetables and their expectations of tastiness. AIso, significant correlation was found between participants' food fussiness levels were and their willingness to touch and taste target vegetables even after the reading exposure.
