I aim to investigate the conjunction of eroticism and seduction and the closely related concepts of death, violence, continuity and the feminine in the context of contemporary art by women artists. Eroticism, in which the partner‟s desire and passion are active in sensuality and love, differs from reproduction and pornography. I look at these concepts through the prism of Baudrillard's theory of seduction, Bataille's eroticism and the feminist criticism of femininity. I draw the connection between the feminine and the new woman and claim that the reflection of the seductive character on the ideologies of today‟s femininity makes the exercise of seduction possible. The second part is dedicated to the search for seductive potential in contemporary performance art and the performative practice of the artists Kira O‟Reilly and Helena Hunter.
