The aim of this study is to assess the transformation of Turkish politics in 21st century which political scientists term 'the revival of Ottomanism'. In this paper, the neo-Ottomanist vision under the rule of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), which aim to create an autonomous, self-regulating and self-confident political agenda, is handled. This paper agrees that there has been unprecedented scale of changes in Turkish foreign policy towards former Ottoman territories. It however claims that the changes in Turkish foreign policy do not aim for de-Westernization of Turkey; instead it seeks to eliminate the previous crisis-driven policymaking in Turkey's foreign relations. In fact, this paper, while not denying the negative effects of recent developments on new Turkish foreign policy, suggests that neo-Ottomanism has improved Turkey's image in the eyes of its neighbouring countries. This paper also argues that neo-Ottomanism has proved to be very effective by dealing with and solving Turkey's untouchable domestic problems.
