Agencification is an international trend.“Agencification is a process where new agencies are created or where existing agencies are given more autonomy”(Jacobsson and Sundström, 2007:3). We define agencies in this dissertation as public organizations, which are legally“subordinated to the government but are structurally disaggregated from the core executive and which enjoys considerable policy and managerial autonomy”(Elston, 2013:5 ). Executive agencies model are seen as an inseparable part of the structure of UK central government. In 2010 about 45 per cent of civil servants worked in 84 agencies with about 65 per cent of civil servants working either in agencies or bodies working on agency lines (James et al., 2011:7). This dissertation analyses the executive agencies in the UK. The dissertation has got two main aims. Firstly we will examine the British Executive Agencies. We will try to find out the general structures of the executive agencies in the UK and then we will look at how they work. The second aim of the dissertation is to analyse the executive agencies under New Labour administration between 1997 and 2010. Then we examine the differences between Conservative Governments and Labour Governments in terms of executive agency policy.
