The topic that has been chosen for conducting research is 'The relationship between supply chain management fit and the overall performance of the firm. The structure of the research is basically a qualitative study with a case based format which will analyze 5 companies which are basically Multinational retail corporations' operating worldwide or at least in major parts of the world. The purpose is to compare and contrast the performance of each of the companies under consideration and to find out the level of correlation that exists between the two variables. The companies that were under consideration for this research are the big 5- Walmart, ASDA, Morrison's Sainsbury's and Tesco which are operating al over the world and well known for the services that they are providing to the customers. The literature review gave an overview of each of the 5 companies in light of how their supply chain worked and how important the supply chain of these companies is to the success of the industry they operate in. On the other hand, the analysis compared and contrasted the financial performance and weighed it in light of the supply chain to see whether the two variables have a correlation. The conclusion then eventually defines that a successful supply chain is the foundation of a successful company in the retail store sector. The primary reason for this change is the fact that when it comes to retail stores it is more important for the customer to get greater value for the product that they are using. This is done by keeping costs as low as possible and increasing efficiency as much as is possible. In addition to this loyalty of customers is also gauged by attracting them with the help of offers and discounts that ensure the continuous sales of products instead of dumping them in warehouses. These companies also follow the just in time principle using high tech systems of inventory management which make them good enough for lean management of resources, cutting down on wastage and value-less activities and making sure that each element of the supply chain adds value to the experience of customers. Eventually, it was observed with the help of existing literature regarding supply chain as well as the financial performance of firms that supply chain has a direct impact on the performance of a firm and if the supply chain is inefficient, it will suddenly raise costs, reduce profits and make systems redundant. With regard to a comparison between all the firms, Walmart has turned out to be the most successful in every regard because it undoubtedly has the most efficient supply chain as well as an information management system which is so sensitive to inventory management that every time a product is taken from the shelf it is immediately replaces so that supply does not get short and it also does not get tied up is excessive capital that could be invested elsewhere (Barclay, Dann, & Holroyd, 2012).
