There has been an increasing interest on credit card defaults in Turkey. Credit card users, credit card issuers, media channels and Turkish Government have growing concerns among credit card defaults. After six legal arrangements in the last seven years, the problem still persists. In only a few months from December 2008 to April 2009, the credit card users who were defaulted on credit cards increased from 1,086,000 to 1,914,000. There were approximately 30 suicide cases occurred each month in 2006. Today, the suicides because of credit card defaults are in danger of being much worse than it had been before. Unfortunately, there were not many studies concerning the reasons of this problem. This research's aim was to understand the problem with applying a wider investigation technique. In this context, the research included credit card users' attitudes on credit cards, usage preferences and details of their credit cards and their demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. Analyses of 11 hypotheses revealed that the findings were not interesting; results demonstrated that there were many intergroup relationships. The implications were based on the results of the findings. There were many concerns of the credit card default issue and many influencers on it. Therefore, the implications of this study included for the credit card issuers in Turkey, credit card users in Turkey, retailers in Turkey and the Government of Turkey. For a better understanding and decrease of credit card defaults in Turkey; further academic researches on the same area is suggested.
