115 ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to examine by comparison the problems of students1 of Turkish and TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) nationalities in the universities of TRNC. In line with this aim, students academic problems concerning the university and education, and also concerning social and personal problems such as dwelling, resting, studying and living, relations with the other sex and the close environment out of school have been investigated. The universe of the research comprised 6871 students of Turkish and TRNC nationalities continuing their studies (education) in the universities of TRNC in 1992-93 educational period, a questionnaire was applied to a research group comprising 386 persons taken out of the above number. The research group included 106 students from TRNC, and 280 from, Turkey. 1 17 of these students were famele, while 269 were male students. There existed 42 questions concerning demographic, academic and social economicial problems on the questionnaire sheet produced in order to provide data for the research. The analyse of the data collected by the questionnaire was made in computer with SPSS package programme. The collected data were defined by techniques on frequency and percentage chi-quare (x2) test technique was applied in order to determine whether or not the measurements are different according to certain variables. In the research, it is understood that the students from Turkey generally do not accept their lives in TRNC as an abroad life. The students from Turkey and TRNC have important reasons to attend the university such as getting a profession, developing personality and acquiring independency. Ratio of reading is low for both groups. Nearly half of the students from/and TRNC cannot satisfy their needs with the money they monthly take, (nany of the students from Turkey have various problems concering dwelling.
