SUMMARY This thesis has been designed to find and to define the intruding figure in the work of Tenneessee Williams. It's based on the role ande the importance of“intruder”. According to T. Williams, all creative work is autobiograhical. That's why- most of ail his characters want to be free. It means that they have to be a voyager in place or in time. Behinde that desire lies the fear to face the real world. Like Williams himself, they are fugitive. It inevitably makes them“intruder”for the others, hi this respect,“intruder”has special power to start and to speed the dramatic action. Then, it will evoke a conflict. The first part contains a general information about the life, the work, the place ad the importance of the playwright in the twentieth century American Drama. The second part, which contains the principal subject, deal with Williams' twelwe full-length plays. After viewing the selected plays as plot- theme, language, characters, in each item- the purpose is to focus on the role and the importance of“the intruder”which often appears as a protagonist. There is no doubt that, that structural element may appear as a situatian. But it's rare in Williams. As for the last part, the thesis reaches a result, making comparisons among the intruders in the selected plays. Finally, it is claimed that the intruding figure has a great importance as a structural element in Williams' work.
