Özet

Araştırmada ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin sayı hissi becerilerinin cinsiyet, anne-baba eğitim durumu ile sayı hissi bileşenlerine göre incelenmesi ve öğrencilerin sayı hissi başarıları ile matematik dersi akademik başarıları arasındaki ilişkinin tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçlar doğrultusunda ilkokul 4. sınıf müfredatına uygun, geçerli ve güvenilir bir Sayı Hissi Testi geliştirilmiştir. Araştırma tarama modeline uygun olarak tasarlanmış, nitel ve nicel veri toplama tekniklerinden yararlanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri 2014–2015 eğitim öğretim yılında Kadıköy ilçesinde bir devlet okulundan toplanmıştır. Nicel veriler için örneklem grubunu 115 4. sınıf öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın nitel verileri için çalışma grubu, nicel verilerin toplandığı örneklem grubundan SHT'den aldıkları puana göre orta-üst grupta yer alan ve gönüllü olan altı öğrenci tarafından oluşmuştur. SHT'nin geliştirilmesi sürecinde ilk olarak testin kapsam geçerliği için uzman görüşlerine başvurulmuştur. Daha sonra güvenirlik ölçütlerinden iç tutarlılık yöntemi kullanılmıştır. SHT'nin iç tutarlılık güvenirliği madde toplam korelasyonuna ve iç tutarlık ölçütüne (t-test) dayalı madde analizleri ile tespit edilmiştir. Yapı geçerliği için Temel Bileşenler Analizi Varimax Dik Döndürme Tekniği kullanılmıştır. Faktör analizleri sonucunda SHT 11 madde ve üç bileşenden oluşmuştur. SHT'nin güvenirlik çalışması Cronbach α iç tutarlılık yöntemi kullanılarak yapılmış ve .728 bulunmuştur. Araştırmanın sonucunda, ilkokul 4. sınıf öğrencilerinin sayı hissi performanslarının çok düşük olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin sayı hissini en az“Sayıların Eşdeğerlerini Bilme ve Niceliksel Muhakeme-Çıkarımda Bulunma”bileşeninde, en çok“Sayıların Anlamını Bilme ve Esnek Düşünme”bileşeninde kullandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Sayı hissinin cinsiyet, anne ve baba eğitim durumu açısından anlamlı bir şekilde faklılaşmadığı bulunmuştur. Öğrencilerin sayı hissi başarıları ile matematik dersi akademik başarıları arasında pozitif yönde bir ilişki tespit edilmiştir.

In the research, it is aimed to examine the number sense abilities of the primary school fourth grade students according to the gender, mother's-father's education status and number sense components. It is also aimed to detect the relationship between the number sense success of the students and their mathematics lesson academic success. In accordance with these aims, a valid and reliable Number Sense Test (NST), appropriate for the primary school fourth grade curriculum, has been developed. The research has been designed as convenient for the survey model, qualitative and quantitative data collecting techniques have been utilized. The data of the research have been collected of a state school in Kadıköy County in 2014-2015 education year. The sample group for the quantitative data has consisted of 115 4th grade students. The work group for the qualitative data of the research has consisted of six volunteer students from the sample group -where quantitative data has been collected- who are at the medium or top class according to the points they took from NST. In the process of development of NST, firstly expert views have been consulted for the content validity of the test. After that internal consistency method from the reliability analysis has been used. So, the Number Sense Test's internal consistency reliability has been calculated by item total correlation values and independent samples t-test for comparison of %27 upper and %27 lower group. Principal Components Analysis Varimax Rotation Technique has been used construct validity. As a result of factor analysis, NST has consisted of 11 items and three components. The reliability workout of NST has been performed by using Cronbach α internal consistency method and .728 identified. In consequence of the research, number sense performances of the primary school 4th grade students have been sees as very low. It has been identified that the students use number sense at“Knowing equivalent expressions of numbers, make judgments and inferences about numerical quantities”component lowest and at 'Knowing the meanings of numbers and flexible thinking' component most. It has been identified that the number sense does not differentiate meaningfully in terms of gender, mother's education status and father's education status. A relationship in the positive direction between the number sense success of the students and their Mathematics lesson academical success has been identified.
