116 SUMMARY THE EFFECTS OF PARENTS' CONDUCTS OF BRINGING UP CHILDREN ON THE LOCUS OF CONTROL OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS In this study, the effects of parents' conduct of bringing up children on the locus of control were determined. Having internal or external locus of control and parents' conducts were compared statistically, according to some certain variables. A sample of 250 secondary school second class students and their parents was taken. Whether the students have internal or external locus of control was measured by the use of Nowicki - Strickland Locus of Control Scale and Parental Attitude Research Instrument. Personal Information forms were used in order to determine the students' and their parents' personal qualities.“Variance Analysis”and“F, t - test”were used for statistically analyze. It was observed from the results of this study, that there is not statistically significant difference between parents' conducts and students' sex and age. However, there is a significant difference between the schools which the students attend and the parents' conducts. Strict discipline factor and mothers' rejection of homemaking role affect students' locus of control. The data shows that the children who are treated compassionately, who are made happy, who are disciplined sensibly and whose behaviors are rewarded, whose free actions are stood by, have stronger internal locus of control than the others'. Females have stronger internal locus of control than males, so have students aged 15 than students aged 12, 13 and 14. Parents' educational situations and children's locus of control were examined and it was found out that the children whose parents had graduated from high school, had stronger internal locus of control than the others' and the117 children whose parents worked, had stronger internal locus of control than the others', too. The data shows that the children who do not be pessimist solving problems, who are glad about their parents' conducts and who are not treated very protectively, who are not punished for their actions, have stronger internal locus of control. Students with internal locus of control suppose their parents' conducts are very hard. They say that their parents get angry but do not beat them when they see their incorrect actions. The results show that the children who are in awe of their mothers rather than their fathers have stronger internal locus of control. It was found out that the children who did not want to be like anybody in their families but just wanted to be themselves had stronger internal locus of control.
